      Hello Rejoice,

Just returned from a good Taiwan Family vacation and seeing the growing threads in TGPS forum bring another smile to my face. Yes, it's nice to see more parents involvement and seem like you have a 1 Hope gang...haha. šŸ˜‰

DS will be joing class 3D next year and same as you, i had yet to buy any books for my 2 children. I guessed once we are seasoned, we tend to be a little more relax. Now busy getting rid of all the old stuff first before bringing on the new loads.

      Cheers,
      astee

      Hi ForeverW and karenllif,

Welcome to the forum. So excited to see so many parents here, haha. This forum is getting more and more exciting.

      ForeverW,
Don't worry about the name tag. You can buy it again on the day when the uniform vendor sells uniform at school. I have not gotten anything for DS2 yet. Will wait till Dec when it is not too crowded ;-p.

      Hi Karenllif,

Great! Another parent of DS' classmate :-). Looks like 1 Hope is a good class, haha. I am sure DS2 will make good friends shortly after school open. Hehe, next time if DS blurr like sotong and forget about homework or assignment, I can ask you all here.

      Hi Astee,

Which class is your DS going in P3 next year? DS1 is going to 3E. Not sure if have a chance to be in the same class, haha

      Hello deskibi,

Welcome! My DS2 will be going to 1 Hope too together with lowym's DD. hehe, glad to know the mummies of my DS' classmates. We also found out that the sister of my DS1's good friend will be in 1 Hope too. So DS2 gets to be friend with DS1's good friend's sister, how nice! Looking forward to new school year and school hours ;-). Before that, all mummies, daddies and kiddos do have fun and enjoy the long holiday and relax. Six weeks is not really that long, hahaha.

Tomorrow is the last day of school for TGPS. DS1 will be freed and be wild for a while before school starts. For those who are traveling for holiday, have a safe and wonderful trips ;).

      Hi Rejoice,

I am a little confused here, please enlighten. You mentioned Power Breaks for 15mins, where does the lunch hour fit in??

I heard my children said can buy tickets for the anniversary dinner.

Now i am oversea for work, so have not received any forms on above all.

      Regards,
      astee šŸ˜„

      Hi all,

Just received notice from school intel new school hour. Next year, the school will start at 7:45am and ends at 1:45pm (yippee!). Recess for P1, 3 & 5 will be on 9:45am (10:15am for P2, 4 & 6). There will be a 15 mins Power Break at 12:15am (12:30am for others). However, one thing does not change is the lunch hour is still at 30 mins. So CCA and remedial classes will start at 2:15pm and ends at 3:45pm. It is a better timing next year. However, I still hope that the school can consider a longer lunch break like 45mins so that the children can have proper lunch.

      Hi Rejoice,

According to school notice - school is officially closed on 16 Nov for Prize Giving day and 17 Nov for 10th Anniversary celebration. So there are no celebration or lessons during the daytime. šŸ˜„

      Cheers,
      astee

      Hi Astee,

Have you heard of the 10th anniversary dinner for TGPS on 17 Nov? Just wonder if there is any celebration at school during the daytime. Thanks

      Hi rejoice,

You mean there was a spelling list?? Oops, my DS didn't show us...surely die liao... :nailbite:

I feel that MT interest need to be build up slowly and agreed that we need the environment to engage them. Same as you, we speak mainly English at home, but i will use chinese with them as and when the opportunity arises. Some families even practise a Speak Mandarin Day in a week. šŸ˜„

Both my children are with Tien Hsien and they had benefitted much from the lessons, especially my elder girl. She is building up her confidence level and is enjoying the lesson very much.

Hope i don't get surprise from my DS MT results.

      Cheers,
      astee

      rejoice137:
Speaking of MT, last night just helped DS revised his Chinese for SA2. Out of 60words spelling list, he only knows about 40, faint...oh well, partly our fault as we don't speak Chinese often at home. I try to get Chinese story books from library and read to them at night. Yes, still need to read to them though Ds1 already P2. So far they are quite interested to it since have mom does the reading. I just hope one day they will read themselves. But this is at least a good start and they will ask for Chinese books when we go library :-). I think if we use Chinese often and expose them to more Chinese, they will eventually pick up the language.

      Hi Ninjago,

For my son's MT lesson, the teacher uses it and even had the child to initial their names on the card so that they will not misplace it. šŸ˜„

You can check with any other P1 parents whom may have hand-me-down cards..then you don't need to spend the S$8...i am afraid mine is too \"messey\" stage now, so i won't even dare to pay-it-forward. šŸ˜‰

      Cheers,
      astee

      Hi Rejoice / Astee,
Can check with you if the chinese character cards are used in class or only for home revision usage? Or varies with Chinese teacher's teaching style?
Was contemplating of not buying as I use more of texts and don use much of flash cards really. Can spend the $8 on a proper chinese assessment book instead....
      Thanks for sharing

      Hi Ninjago,

Thanks for sharing. šŸ˜„ Fyi, my son started in 1Bravery too, 2 years ago and he was very lucky to have a very kind and loving FT.

This year, the whole class en-bloc to 2B and there was a change in his FT, whom is still kind and loving with an extra factor - Strictness. To be honest - I LOVE it....

      Regards,
      Astee

      Hi Beauty,
Orientation Program starts at 9am. So you go earlier to collect child name tag n forms. Must have bank acct number for Giro appln but i guess can submit to office on any other days. The assigned class is on the name tag and the child will wear it on that day.

On orientation day, bookshop open till 12pm only and uniform sales till 3pm.

By the way, my DS is in 1Bravery. Confirmed not according to registration numbers as I was over reg number 200 when registering - maybe numbered 1 to 8 and all the 1s go to class A, etc etc. Anyone else?

      Hi Beauty79,

If there is no change of process, the school will be sending the documents which will include the class and house that you child has been posted to, prior to orientation day. So on the orientation day itself, you will know which class to assemble your child to in the hall.

After the assembly, the form teachers will bring the kiddos to their future classroom with their classmates, while the parents remain in the hall for the talks. When the talks end, you will be able to go to your child's classroom to sign him/her out. Then you can proceed to buy uniforms/books etcs. šŸ˜„

Hopefully there are no changes to the processes, if there are any, you guys will be a good lead to share with future newbies to the forum. šŸ˜‰

Happy Graduation Ceremony to the PCF kiddos tomorrow at TGPS. Saw that GOH is PM Lee, such an honor and i know the kiddos will put up their best performance for their parents and teachers!!

      beauty79:
Will the school let the parents know which class yr child is in when you fill in the form? I could not make it on the assigned day and the staff said to fill in on the orientation day itself.
      Cheers,
      Astee

      Hi Ninjago,

For both my children, they did use the crayons for the art lesson, so it's good to have one on standby. As for Art bag, we used to have an A3 size file for it, if i remembered correctly. šŸ˜„ If you already had an art bag, then i don't think you will need to get another one.

      Hope this helps.

      Astee

      Ninjago:
      Hi hi Astee,
      Can advise the following:
Was reading the booklist, is it really necessary to buy the A3 art bag and crayons? I mean really must be 'uniform' for all pupils on the bag and really got use crayons? And really used for Art period?
Because personally don use much crayons and don want to buy extra. So was thinking of using his current colour pencils and Art bag can get hands-me-down.

      Hi Ninjago,

You can check again on orientation day which house your child is being group to, then you will know exactly the house PE T-shirt to buy.

      @beauty79,
Based on previous years experienced, there will be a list of dates for parents to purchase the books/uniforms etcs. As the other primary also need to purchase the next level of their books and new uniforms. šŸ˜‰

      Regards,
      Astee
