Yes! Definitely looking forward to double 11. We can start adding our purchase into the shopping cart. On 11 Nov, refresh it to get the discounted pricing. My China colleagues taught me.

      Happy shopping!!!

    • RE: The Alternative Story (TAS) - Discussion

You are welcome annalee. Just to add on, for the primary school level I find it so-so (materials are quite good though) and it really depends on teachers. Some are experienced ex-school Teachers but boring and vice versa. Therefore I only recommend LP for pre-school phonics. Maybe TAS is better for Pri School level in view of the mostly positive comment here. 🙂

    • RE: Comparing Pre-school English Reading and Phonics Enrichment

Hi annalee, I always recommend Learning Point to friends for pre school phonics. The approach use by LP is really very effective and engaging for the little ones. My 2 kids have no issue doing well in EL by the time they entered P1.

The weekend classes are always full though. You may enquire directly from the centre for next year schedule.

    • RE: Higher Chinese in P5 - To opt or not

I spoke with my son’s CL teacher this afternoon and was told:

*it is common for most P5 to underperform in HCL so parents need not be too overly alarmed
*most students will improve in P6
*students who are in mid to high 70s in P5 are normally able to get a distinction in P6… (my thought is there are not many students with high 70s or 80s to begin with. no wonder % of distinction in HCL is low. tough subject indeed.)
*those who are in 60s range are able to get at least a credit in PSLE
*approximately 70% of the cohort is able to get at least a credit in PSLE
*school will not ask a student to drop HCL in P6 unless the student has problem coping with HCL (no progress / consistently failing and also not doing well in other subjects). over the past years, cases like such is very few so most students will still continue with HCL in P6.

Above is for my child’s school where all took HCL since P1 but I believe it should be similar in other schools too.

In fact, CL teacher also mentioned many P5 will underperform in other subjects too, not only in HCL. However, majority will be able to catch up in P6. The main reason is attributed to the increase in difficulty level and students need time to adjust.

I finally understand why people say P5 is the most difficult year in a student’s primary school education.

    • RE: Wang Learning Centre 汪老師 - Discussion

Hi, personally I prefer 2 hour tuition class. 1.5 hour is too short whereas 3 hour is too long. At the 3rd hour, the brain might already be switched off and how much one can absorbed is a question mark. Like what you say, it may be a waste of time and money.

I agree paper 2 can be drilled at home using those assessment books that follow closely the school textbook (by topics). For tuition, I target at compre, compo and not forgetting oral that carries significantly high weightage too.

      Thank you lee_yl. 🙂

The average SA2 HCL score for his class is mid 60s. It has improved from SA1 (as there were quite a number who obtained 40++ ) but mean score is still considered as low for a top class. 😓 Perhaps like what you shared earlier, the progressive improvement will only come in P6.

Thank you phtthp. I am a little bit surprised that there is more discussion for 2019 PSLE than 2018.

    • RE: Higher Chinese in P5 - To opt or not

Thank you phtthp. My son is taking HCL now in P5 but I am not sure if he should continue in P6. As compare to standard Chinese, I realise that the marking for composition is more stringent and comprehension is also very tough for HCL. It is so difficult to do well, I feel.

I got the below information from MOE website. Does anyone knows how to translate this into a score? How many marks does a student need to get for HCL paper in order to be awarded the +3, +2 or +1?

Pupils in the top 30 per cent of the cohort who take Higher Chinese at the PSLE will be given bonus points for admission to SAP schools

      • Distinction: 3
      • Merit: 2
      • Pass: 1

Sorry, can I check if there is such a discussion for next batch 2018 PSLE? I saw 2017 and 2019 but nothing for next year PSLE (students born in 2006)?

      Thank you.
