      Callie Tan:

Mrs Seah has called just now saying I will be allowed to attend the dialogue session this evening. At the same time, she stressed that although my girl is selected but in actual fact, there will be only 16 girls be selected into the volleyball team and my girl might not be one of the 16... ??? So out of the 10 Primary 2 classes, a total of 300 students, the school only select 16 girls and 16 boys into the volleyball teams respectively? No wonder it's called the niche CCA...

Once again, after the earlier conversation I am even more confused.... at first said she's selected then now said she might not be selected... confusing...

Callie, I spoke to Mrs Bernadette Chen (HOD PE) and she did explain to me that for the 3 niche CCAs, they selected 16 boys and 16 girls for each CCA. This will mean that out of 300 students, about 96 students were selected. Do you have an option? Is it only VB? My son has an option of basketball or table tennis. I am getting puzzled how the selection process works too. I suppose attend the briefing tonight and hopefully can have a better idea.

Since there are only 2 classes of 40 each (I assume), they are expecting 16 pupils to drop out of the sports class. We shall ask how many pupils are there max in each sports class and what happens if more than 80 pupils are interested?

My son just got his ICAS results for maths and he got Higher Distinction. Hope the results can be sustanined. Thats why i am still very apprehensive about sports class. Up to now, I am not so inclined to join Sports Class.

My girl didn't do very well, only managed 22/40... she said the test was done before recess and extended into the recess time and she was sooo sooo hungry that she couldn't really concentrate... Last night we went through the questions ourselves and she got 90% of the answer correct so I think she's just complacent lah, hehehe... m trying to find a reason to justify her results... šŸ˜‚ Btw, the top student in her class scored full marks....

Your son did well! Keep up the good work...

Callie - dont loose heart. Honestly, kids at this stage get easily distracted by external factors. šŸ˜‚

Tks, mummyv. What time does your girl go to bed? Still can manage 8 to 9 hrs of sleep? It is amazing, the way your girl has to cope. Besides the child, the parent also must be very disciplined and no more life! šŸ˜“

I will be asking the school why there is no more sports class in P5 and p6 and leaving it to the kids to manage their time. Cant but help feeling \"abandoned\".

Callie - i still find it extremely weird that the school can manage to get decisions about pupils \"dropping out\" of sports class when they have just offered. It just does not seem logical.

Is Weiqi also a niche CCA and does it require a lot of time committment? The teacher in charged who happens to be my son's teacher asked the class if they want to join as CCA. If so, she will give them the form and no need to wait.

As usual, my son said yes. He will say yes to everything. ha ha.....

oh yes, one more thing, what time does all the training end? I am working and stay in AMK. So the transport will be a challenge for me. My poor son is in student care in serangoon. So I am not sure how things will pan out.

Callie, you mentioned that the top pupils in VB opted out so your girl gets a place. This doesnt gel leh. The letter said that we need to decide by 19 Oct and the letter was only issued on 8 Oct. I wonder how come there are drop outs ?

No harm to attend the briefing as you get to hear directly. It could also help you to decide which CCA to go for. So far, 2 boys who got selected for sports class unanimously said yes, according to my son. One of them is my next block neighbour who have to tick either basketball or VB. Another had to decide between BB, VB or Table Tennis. And you know what the boy said ? Tick all. Ha ha... I think boys prefer play to work. So all will want to go.

Tks all for the encouragement ! I shall attend the briefing and šŸ˜„ update šŸ˜„

I notice that so far, the mummies who share have girls in the VB sports class. I wonder how discipline the boys will be. Not easy to get the boys to stick to a strict regime.

Callie, you mentioend that your girl is selected for VB but did not receive the letter to attend the briefing? Pls check with the FT as a friend of mine asked the teacher why no letter, reply was that only parents whose kids are offered Sports Class gets the letter. Could your girl have missed it?

Does PCPS offer VB as a CCA?

      Tks, MummyV and 999Happygolucky

Thanks for all the advice. Do you know what is the niche CCA for Hwa Chong Institute? I note that so far, the kids in the sports class are girls. I guess girls are more matured and manage time better.

I wonder how easy it is to drop out of sports class at p4. Maybe i can let my son try sports class and if his results drop, appeal to the prinicipal to be allowed to join normal calls at P4. What the PN said must be committed to P4. :scared:

MummyV , what CCA is your girl in?

999Happygo lucky , so you girl did not use the DSA route? Is she still active in sports now that she is in sec 2 ?

Thank you, MummyV. Sorry to make you do a FAQs. Your answers are very detailed and impressive ! šŸ˜„

So is your daughter still in the VB school team? Sounds like P5 and P6 is even tougher. Already everyone tells me grades in P5 will drop 1 level as alot of stuff are cramped in P5 so that P6 can spend more time on revision.

Just curious, do the children in sports class still manage 9 to 10 hours of rest and can still manage tuition classes?

Aside to Callie - my views is just focus on 1 niche CCA. No way to do two. For me, I think even one is tough. ha ha..
