RGS environment has a diversity in race and HMT offered so it's like a mini HDB/Singapore type of environment but it is more homogenous in academic abilities as it is only IP track. NYGH has only HMT of HCL so the environment is closer to being homogeneous but it has both IP and O level track offered so its diversity is in the education path.

As for the transition from Year 4 to Year 5 being easier in RGS, it can't be because it is a common exam with RI boys who have a different curriculum Year 1- Year 4 so some papers are pit at a standard adjusted for both schools' IP track. I would say the competitiveness in academic abilities is what drive the kids to perform in the exam to transit to Year 5/6 and majority would make it, not that it is easier to pass this exam.

In fact, I do not think this should even be a point of consideration. If the kids are happy and learning well in the environment, they would thrive at the year 4 exams in either school.

U are incorrect, both RGS and NYGH are pure IP school, no o level track in sec 1 and sec 2. In NYGH, weaker students (about 20 each year) are structured into SIP class (o level, detached from IP prog) based on their promotion result in sec 2. By taking out weaker students ensures all girls can go proceed sec 4 to HCI In RGS, basically a pass will see u through to JC. Those failed ones will be retained and re-do again.

Not sure, but my DD did see Malays and Indians in NYGH uniforms, and also a Ang Mo in class 202 (1 of the GEP class).

RGS has a much wider mix of students from different races and cultural backgrounds, while NYGH is predominantly a Chinese SAP school which is affiliated with NYPS. This means around 24% of the top student pool in Singapore will not consider NYGH or HCI. The cultural mix at RGS or RI may contribute to student social behaviour and interaction. e,g current RGS principal is a Malay and she is an ex-student at RGS.

Probably u are wrong, there are Malays and Indians in NYGH, although not as much as in RGS.

He is a growing 12 year old and very sociable and confident. From a mid-tier primary school and frequently do very well academically compared to his peers. I already warned him that the peers will be a different league and he must be prepared to work hard and also get use to having a lot of classmates doing better than him and be encouraged by learning from them rather than being discouraged.

Sit back and relax, sec 1 is the honeymoon year after psle. Most students did not go for any tuition, they need to be self-reliant and motivated. School's provided notes/material is sufficient. They don't really use much of those textbooks they buy, except maybe HCL.
