      Dear Olivia,

The girls already face tough questions, particularly in maths! With what seems like no help from the teacher. We don't blame him. He has a lot to cover so he doesn't have time to make sure every girl understands one topic before moving on to the next. Tough questions are fine as long as they are accompanied by closely guided teaching. No wonder parents have to spend extra money on tuition. Teachers, text books, work books, assessment books, past years papers from top primary schools are all not enough. What is needed is one teacher to one child, a teacher who can ensure and guide the child to understand all the different permutations and combinations that are posed in math questions these days. Even my husband, who is very good in maths, is stumped by the complexity of some of these questions. We really wish we had guidance from the maths teachers on how to teach our children.
My elder girl in P2 currently and the younger girl will be going to p1 next year , I remember last year we attended a math workshop in model drawing for parents organized by the school , it helps as she has started using model drawing this year and also we're able to teach her on using model drawing for answering questions.
For maths, we'll check her daily works and understanding on the concepts taught on that particular topic . Nearer to CA or SA, we will ask her to do more worksheets from the assessment book. So far so good. hopefully 🙏

      Hi jacsplace

I understand from my kid that for the benefit of those who are non Chinese, there is always a local PE teacher to help translate the instructions from the gym coach. So not to worry!
Yes, my girl in P2 this year, said their PE teacher always with them during gym lessons.

      Hi

From the official website of the ACS Old Boys' Association

      http://www.acsoba.net/

PRIMARY ONE REGISTRATION FOR CHILDREN OF OBA MEMBERS

For old boys with sons born in 2004 and your son is due to start Primary one in 2011, the registration exercise will be held in July 2010.
The registration system favors parent alumni who are members of the ACSOBA not later than 30 Jun 2009. Please ensure this is the case.

PRIMARY ONE REGISTRATION FOR BOYS BORN IN 2004 :This is an announcement for old boys with sons born in 2004. Your son is due to start primary one in 2011 and the registration exercise will be held in July 2010.

Strict Deadline The exercise will be carried out in phases with the first phase, Phase I for children with siblings in the school of choice. The next phase after that is Phase 2A1 for children with a parent who is a former student of the school and who has joined the alumni association as a member not later than 30 Jun 2009. Children with a parent who studied in the school of choice but is not a member of the alumni association will only be registered in Phase 2A2.

How to apply for ACSOBA membership Old boys are therefore reminded to apply for membership of the ACSOBA before 30 Jun 2009 if they intend to benefit from the priority given to OBA members in Phase 2A1.

To apply just download the application form and send the completed form together with a cheque for the membership fee to the ACS OBA Secretariat. Easier ACSOBA application Applying for membership is much easier now as the application no longer needs to be supported by a proposer and seconder.

When my girl was in YMCA student care last year… . For first few days, everyday I called the driver HP and asked him whether arriving soon or what time to go down and wait. So whenever he was early he called my hp.

This year , my girl is taking the another bus home as I have changed the student care to near to our home. On first day of school , called the driver to inform him to look up for my girl as she is first time taking his bus and make sure he knew where to drop her. To be kiasu ,even took half day leave on 4 Jan and went down to her school during their dismissal time, went to look up for her school bus no to make sure she boarded the right bus and also spoke to the driver juz to make sure he got the alighting address right. Luckily for her there are two other girls going to the same student care. Now that CCA started, my dd told me sometime there are very few girls in the bus .

I also got 2 drivers hp no and even the big boss ,Francis hp no(hopefully still the same). Maggie has asked me to complain to the Sch Admin Manager about the transportation ...but c no point since has already taken her out of YMCA.

Heard all P2 have compulsory swimming lesson in the afternoon and also Chinese Speech and Drama.
Sport Day for P1 is grouped according to their houses. Mine is Cooke Hse(blue). How about yours?

Sorry just saw this post. Have missed this post earlier.

Just attended the PTC yesterday. Yes, swimming compulsory. Mine dd is in Gage Brown.

Have called Francis cos i can't just wait....The transport company just fax back to me yesterday but still finalizing the total cost....no news on transport still for CCA... 😞

We attended the PTC yesterday too.
A few of us parents spoke to the FT about the swimming as to whether can be exempted as our girls have already attended swimming lessons outside. Were told to get a letter from the coach and email her. Actually I have already arranged the CCA transport for her swimming on every Friday , to pick her up at 4.30pm. Additional of $40 per month for the CCA bus. Now , will cancel.it. You may look for Mdm Nur, 62886032, On the phone , she will register your girl’s name in her system and let you the bus no.and driver name.
