Most centres in the market teaches children to draw based on specific skills. (e.g. painting w acrylic)
since it is skill based, then there is right and wrong in the skill ( think of it like maths, doing multiplication)
attending such classes makes you child a painter, doesnt make him/her an artist. they are different.
artist speaks thru their artform, painter just paints.
allowing creativity and imagination is allow children to speak thru their art, thus the outcome is very different from learning a skill.( think of a child offering alternative solution to multiplication, the final answer can be wrong, but the spirit to explore and experiment is encouraged)
so do take note of what you want and what the center offers before committing.
i have helped students prepare portfolio for SOTA VA and presenting works as painter or artist is very different. (fyi they are lookiing for artist not painter)

RE: Q&A - P3 Math
phtthp:
If use Algebra method to solve : can someone show the steps involved ? Thank you.lee_yl:
P3 Topical Test for Multiplication and Division:
Mindy baked some muffins for her friends. If she gave each friend 3 muffins, she would have 12 muffins left. If she gave each friend 4 muffins, she would need to bake 4 more muffins.
a) How many friends did Mindy give the muffins to?
b) How many muffins did Mindy have at first?
38 out of 40 in DD's class got it wrong
. For the 2 who got it right, one used Algebra :yikes: and the other used Guess & Check method.
Because the other method (Guess & Check) : also not easy
qn to ask ur kid:
pareent(P): when each child gets 3 muffins, how many extra do we have?
Child(C): 12
p: when each child gets 4 muffins, how come there is enough and need to bake 4 more?
(need to help child understand that each cos everyone is take more.)
show child that 12 left and need 4 more means 16 is needed.
since 16 more is needed and each child gets 1 more in the latter case, then there are 16 children in all.
concept is shortage is excess and comparing the difference is vital in p5 n p6. a lot of questions can be solved thru this understanding.
there is a reason why algebric manipulation is taught only in sec 1...
E.g
when each boy gets 18 sweets and each girl gets 20, there are 40 sweets left.
when each boy gets 20 sweets and each girls gets 18, there are 60 sweets left?
are there more girls or boys and how many more?
(hint: the extra sweets come from the extra pupils, either boys or girls.) -
RE: Suspension by school
My school oncebhad this program to help parents understand classroom situation by having 2 parents on voluntary basis to relief class for 1 period. After a month, all parents necome ‘busy’ & e program died of natural death cos no parents were willing to come it. However , I thought e pt was well brought across n parents realised takjng care of a class of 40 is not as simple as it seems.
I am quite sure alot of teachers know what to ans how to manage e class better by doing certain things beyond the classroom. But with e list of things to do in other committees outside the classrooom, it just make more sense to spend ir time elsewhere. -

RE: Air Coolers
Air cooler works by drawing dry air in, pushing e dry air thru some filter which is wet by e water flowing. As e dry air passes thru, evaporation takes place and heat energy in e air is required to evaporate e water thus air temperature is reduced. At the same time, the air get wetter too, as in increase in humidity. For it to work well, u need an open air path, meaning a Window opened behind n in front of e cooler. This is to facilitate the input of dry air n the output of wet air, which neess to leave e room or else e humidity in e room will increase dramatically.
Coolers r effective in humidity range od 30 to 70. Beyond that, little evaporation occurs n thus no effective.
If used in a closed room, it will cool e air if humidity is low to begin the w bu5 will soon become ineffective when the humiditu exceeds 80. Worse, e temp will go back up n u will sweating as e air is now super wet!
Just to add, humidity tends to hover around 55 to 65 at night drying e dry season. So do ur maths in terms of hownlong e air cooler can be effective
In short, ita not effective yo combat haze heat. Since one would tend to cclose windows when psi is up. -

Start by putting one at ea corner.Flower pots are to be arrange along the side of a square courtyard so that there is an equal number of pots along each side of the courtyard. There are 77 pots available.
(a)What is the maximum number of flower pots that can be used?
(b)How many flower pots there will be along each side of the courtyard?
:?: :?
Then u r left w 77-4=73 pots.
Since e remaining gotta put at 4 sides, it much be divisible by 4.the largest possible will be 72.
So max no. Of pots =72+4=76
Pots on ea side =72÷4+2 (2 at e corners) -

Devi bought 3 kg of strawberries and 7 kg of prunes. Tay bought 7 kg of strawberries and 3 kg of prunes. Tay paid $20 more than Devi. If 1 kg of strawberries cost $19, what was the total cost of 1 kg of strawberries and 1 kg of prunes?
57+7kg prunes+20=133+3kg prunes
balancing the eqn:
4kg of prunes=133-57-20 and solve. -

Shufen bought some strawberries from the supermarket. After using 4/7 of it to make a strawberry cake, she bought another 36 strawberries and baked another cake exactly like the first. 3/7 of the remaining strawberries were used to make jam. 16 strawberries were left. How many strawberries did she have at first?
Total=7u+36
3/7 used =4/7 left, then 4u=16 & 1u=4.
Therefore 7u=28.
Total = 8u+28(2 same cakes + jam+left)
7u+36=8u+28
There 1u=36-28=8
7u=56 -

Mary arranged 120 red and blue beads in a circle to make a necklace. There were 4 red beads between 2 blue beads. How many blue beads did she use?
Arrangement:
BrrrrBrrrrBrrrr......BrrrrBrrrrBrrrr
One set(5 beads) is Brrrr as e last will connect to front.
Therfore 120÷5=24.
24 blue beads
