If I can recall, they hv introduced basic counting for maths in beg of this yr. After being told by her teacher on their curriculum for this yr, I decided to enroll her for extra lesson in Mavis tutorial ctr where they prepared these kids for P1 next yr. They hv given spelling test (10 words) every week and also assessment for maths. The syllabus fr MFS is not comparable. I afraid tat by not providing her with add. Classes, she may lag behind others in P1 next yr.

I understand tat the teaching method fr MFS may not be the same as some ctr which they are adopting learning thru play in a relaxing environment for kids.

ok thanks. yes, i agree on that. it's not enough from what they learnt in MFS alone. tt's why enrichment classes can supplement on that. just that we need to know what to supplement.

If we want, each day give 1 word for our child, by the 5th day, total of 5 words. then do a spelling test with him on the next Monday. if can write already, then ask them write the 5 words. start slow. this will help in the spelling portion also.

maths wise, i thk better send them for classes as the foundation is important. at home, just ensure they know the numbers and simple addition

I believe building gd foundation in languages is essential for entering P1. For maths, if the kid is able 2 understand the logic of addition n subtraction, i believe this shld be sufficient. I think the most difficult subject is Chinese where it consists of accuracy writing (pi hua) n hypy.

Hi, my girl is in k2 this yr and cfm no spelling test for both English n Chinese. According 2 my girl, they hv not yet start on maths as well as han yu pin yin. As such, I enrol her in Mavis tutorial for p1 preparatory class n Beijing language class.

Thanks for sharing. i was told han yu ping ying only comes in at seocnd half of K2 for MFS.

Is it something we should worry about ? no spelling? no maths(i need to check with DD teacher on this, as from the 3 mthly updates, they are being introduced maths concepts)

      Hi micollh

Oh,,u mean their k1/k2 no spelling at all huh,,,hmm,,,then i am worried,,,cos Pri 1 also need to noe spelling rite?...does ur DD noe how to spell any words??. even after the literacy thing??

tt's what the teacher told me. I think Primary school has spelling but not sure about the syllabus.

my DD is learning to read now, picking up. The literacy is not meant to spell. it's for them to recognise words and then know how to use the words in sentences.

i learnt from one mummy whose kid in p1 this year that there are no test or games to guage the standards of the kids during the orientation and yet when i read the previous thread right from the beginning of this year, there seems to be some tests or something, and if the students are weaker, they will be asked to attend the Han Yu pin Yin class or the phonics class. I wonder who is actually right?

I personally feel tat the school shd abolish this assessment as this may cause unnecessary stress to both parents and child. If the child is not given this kind of experience on handling the test or rather games as most of the preschools are adopting \"learning thru play\", this doesn't mean tat the child is weaker than other children. They are simply not given the exposure to such tests.

      Just my personal opinion.

      Hi,

I am new here. Hoping to enrol my son in NCP in 2017, haha. Understand its a super ks question. Is it true that we can only try for pv 2 years before p1 registration? Possible to start much earlier?

Why start PV (if you get chosen) so early when it makes no difference?

If you are hokkien you can try the Shhk route to get into phase 2b, however, if you are staying > 1 km, then even u got into 2b by whichever way, chances of balloting are high, you may want to check the balloting history to assess this.
Ellaemma, forgot to chk with u on whether u have any ideas of how long it takes for this orientation day? I need to find someone to look after my baby.

It was less than half a day.. in the morning starting at 8am. Last year's orientation fell on 22nd Nov..

When free, you may want to browse through some parents' postings last year...
      http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4486&start=620

I browsed through the year before last to pick up other parents' information when we were in your shoes šŸ˜›

Parents will hear P talk and watch performance. Children will go into their classes and brought to their classrooms for some \"assessments\". Last year, they were tested on Eng, Maths and Mother Tongue.
Hi Timtim,

So what's the purpose of conducting this assessments? Is this assessment meant for their class allocation?
Hi, I intend to arrange school bus from home to NCPS for my gal next year. Can anyone tell me the tel no. For the school bus provider?

Hi, you may get it here. http://www.ncps.moe.edu.sg/School_Vendor_info.html

Hi ectanz, on the orientation day, the vendor will be there for you to make arrangement with. They should tell you the fee as well depending on the boarding/alighting distance. Just remember to bring enough cash.
