    • RE: CMA Math - Discussion

I am seeing my son getting confused with the formulas now and I am pondering if I should still continue. The school said this is normal and once the children are used to all the formulas, they will be able to calculate very fast. I am not sure how long it will take to achieve this standard but guess it also depends on each child.

Recently, his teacher even pulled his ears when he answered 2 questions wrongly. He dared not tell me and it was by chance that I spotted his ear was red. At first, I thought he accidentally scratched it while he was sleeping. When I asked him why he made that 2 mistakes, he answered the class was noisy as the teacher kept talking to another boy so he did not think properly. I feedback to the sch the following week but from then on, DS did not make any careless mistake anymore. Nevertheless, I do not favor such punishment on young kids.

    • RE: MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni

      leo:
Anything, so long as they announce before phase 1, can be implemented and made effective. Imagine if they scrap PV priority with immediate effect - I just told my friend this afternoon that I would cry if that happen .

Then it will not be fair for existing parents already contributed to PV. No, i think even if changes really kick in this year, PV priority will only be scrap after 2013 registration for 2014 intake. MOE needs to give schools advance notice to stop accepting PV too. Otherwise, I think many parents will start approaching the MPs.

    • RE: All Schools are GOOD Schools

To support this claim, the easiest way is to be transparent and show the statistics of quality passes (of all schools) over the past 10 years in MOE website!

      Numbers speak louder than words!

    • RE: MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni

I just called MOE hotline and asked if there's any updates as to when the new policies for P1 registration kicks in.

CS replied, \"Hold the line please and let me do a quick check if there is any information on this yet.\"...(waited almost 3 min)..
\"I am sorry, there is no information yet. Pls call again in end May or early Jun. There will be more information by then.\"

I guess it will be release just in time before P1 registration but may not be a major change though. Putting all the inputs from the parents together, I hope siblings, alumni (active members only) and distance get the priorities. 😂

Honestly I think grassroots and PV is not that important because these people tend to disappear after their kids get a place in the school. It is even sad for those who clocked in the number of hours but in turn get balloted out. A strong parent support group (PSG) is more important than PV as those in PSG are the ones who will continue to contribute to the school till their children complete PSLE.

Foreigners - those on expatriate package usually put their kids in international schools and not local schools. (not much concern to us)
Foreigners - non expat. these are the people who will consider local schools. 1 of my colleagues is thinking of applying PR for herself so that her kids can get priority to local schools. However, she will let her children decide if they want to be S'pore citizen when they turn 18. If the boys want to as the concern is that they need to serve NS. They want the best of both worlds!
PR - Length of stay in S'pore should be considered. If they have been staying here for more than 5 years and the kids are born in S'pore, they do deserve some priority.

Anyway, I do not understand why MOE has to disclose a bit of information, keep a little and keeping people in suspense. I rather they release all information at one go! For sure, some will be happy and some sad but I rather know it early.

If I bump into Mr Heng, I will definitely tell him that all schools are TOTALLY not the same. I came from a neighbourhood primary school and I know it best! Sometimes I do pity those young teachers who are posted to those not too good neighbourhood pri school. Having graduated with lots of passion in teaching but the cruel reality is that you teach and teach (totally committed) but see little or no results. Students background are different from those in elite schools. Same amount of effort, you see the results in the better schools.

MOE should start to bridge the gap between the lower tier neighbour schools and those SAP/GEP schools. Do in depth analysis why these schools, after 10 years, still cannot produce PSLE score > 275. Why the % of quality passes is consistently low every year? Principals issues or \"feng shui\" of the school? Till then, do not comment that schools are the same.

Wah!! I sure hope they dont remove the siblings phase!! I have 3 kids! N I cannot imagine the logistic nightmare n the escalating cost I would have to go through if this scheme is removed n my boys suay suay don't get into the same school!!

Imagine!! New uniforms!! New textbooks (if different authors are used)!! Mad morning rush!!

      Eeks!!! ;(

      Pls keep this phase!!!
I feel phase 1 is the fairest of all the phases. Totally agree that it's going to be a logistical nightmare for most parents if it's really removed. 😓
      This phase must stay!! 😄
Otherwise, new parents to be should perhaps consider just having 1 child then...?!

    • RE: Chongfu Primary

Just to share... I have 2 cousins who had graduated from this Sch a couple of years back. The elder one scored above 270 and went to IP @ RGS, now with NUS doing double major in Chemistry Engineering & Business and is still on Dean's List. Younger one whom my uncle always classified as the \"not smart one\" also managed to get 259 and went to St Nicks, RJC and now on scholarship with SMU.

Both of them only had Maths tuition at some tuition centre. Nothing else. Low maintenance cost! According to my auntie, the school has very good and caring teachers. The school assessment papers are good enough to prepare them for PSLE. Teachers never failed to give extra coaching to weaker students. I am totally impressed with this outstanding neighborhood sch.
To parents here, I believe all your children are really in good hands. 🙂

    • RE: Kheng Cheng

I hope to get more reviews about Kheng Cheng too. Parents with kids in this Sch, how was the 2011 PSLE performance, highest aggregate and mean T-score? I tried checking with the school but they are very secretive. :scratchhead:

How is the school discipline? Does the Sch teach 'Di Zi Gui'?

Anyone enrolling your child for the upcoming 3rd National Kindergarten Chess Championships? My DS’s instructor encourage him to participate to gain some exposure. How do you prepare your child for the competition?

Hi, I am considering putting my girl in the wait list for K1 at Halifax. Does the curriculum prepares the kids for P1? In other words, without enrichment classes, by end of K2, will they be ready for Pri Sch?
