RE: CHIJ Primary (Toa Payoh)
I think across the island, many did not do well or performed as expected as compared to previous years. Papers were set much tougher this year maybe.

RE: CHIJ St Nicholas Girls'
phtthp:
My gf is a HOD in a secondary school and I quote and share her take below on the new changes:Current practice, at St Nick primary
@(P1 and P2) level -
Total, there are 7 classes, per level.
Each (P1 / P2) class : accomodate up to 30 students, per class.
Names of these seven (P1 & P2) classes included, are :
(Purity, Charity, Justice, Grace, Hope, Faith & Wisdom)
At end of P2 : streaming arose, into new P3 classes. Each P3 class accomodate around (38 to 40+) students. How, they stream ?
Based on Overall P2 results -
From seven P2 classes, finally streamed into six P3 classes. And, out of these 6 classes, three are Top three P3 classes. The names of these Top 3 classes are being rotated yearly, across each different batch.
(7 minus 1) equal 6.
That means 1 class (Wisdom class) is gone (reduced / cut off), from P2 moving up in to P3.
But, now (September 2018), come the latest MOE announcement changes.
Going forward,
From next year 2019 onwards, MOE want All (P1 and P2) students, to go tests-free. That is, No more graded Nor weighted P2 Assessments nor exam, anymore.
source of reference, below
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/schools-to-cut-mid-year-exams-for-some-levels-primary-1-and-2-pupils-will-not-be-graded-or?xtor=CS3-17
This imply that starting next year 2019 onwards:-
since No more P2 graded / weighted assessments exist, anymore,
i)
there shouldn't be streaming, at the end of P2,
ii)
there shouldn't exist Top 3 classes, at P3 level anymore.
All P3 classes ought to become (labelled) just \"Mixed Ability\" classes, from 2019 onwards.
\"Mixed Ability\" classes is now a growing trend, amongst many GEP schools who had already embraced this concept, so far. \"Mixed Ability\" classes had also been implemented in some other neighbourhood primary schools, as well, besides GEP schools.
Under \"Mixed Ability\" classes -
No more Top class, also No more bottom (last) class.
Many primary schools had already done away (eliminated) with this Top few P3 classes, because feedback (complaint) was that :
it exerted a lot of un-necessary, un-due academic stress to the (parents & students), as a result of streaming, into Top few classes.
Those P3 students who got streamed into Non-Top (Average) class : feel demoralized, feel discouraged.
While those students who got streamed into Top class : feel pressurized, because expectation from subject Tr, is high.
Why subject the young P3 students, to un-necessary stress ?
Note that the objective of the latest changes (announcement) came about from MOE :
is to de-emphasize academic score / marks in exams.
Hence, wef 2019, MOE had eliminated (removed) (P3 / P5 / Sec 1 / Sec 3) SA1 mid-year exam.
Reason (behind the scene, for those wish to know)
Across the national level, in Singapore, there had been an alarming rise, of an increasingly number of both (Primary & Secondary) students reported : who are seeking help at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), particularly at (Upper primary & at Secondary level), due to the high stress level & expectations, coming from their (parents, school Teachers, tuition centre Teachers, etc.) There had also been an increasingly number of Secondary school students, who inflicted self-harm, upon themselves. School counsellors are aware too, and are involved in counselling these affected students. Parents, beware. You had put in so much effort from cradle since birth, for past so many years, to groom up your daughter. Do Not lose your daughter.
1. Changes meant goalposts are shifted. Stress points delayed. Benefit the more disciplined students
2. The weaker n lazy n no supervision ones they have no tests n exams to check them in
3. More stress for schools n teachers to experiment n come up with appropriate qualitative descriptors n tests
4. When one realises they don't have capacity to sit for national exams (still have), may be too late. Example, end sec 3 then exam. O level MT is sec 4 May
I personally feel that timely checkpoints are still needed to gauge a student's competency level so that there is still time to arrest the area of weakness, hopefully in time for major exams. Unless major exams like PSLE are scrapped totally, those changes may have reversed effects of even more stress when push comes to shaft. -

Hi phtthp,HHMummy:
P1 : usually 3 PE lessons, per week
for a start, buy 3 sets of PE (T-shirt + shorts) first, in case on rainy days, no time to dry, because no hot sun appear.
perhaps buy 2 sets of the same size, plus 1 set one size bigger, in case Semester 2 (2nd half of next year 2019): your girl grow much taller, pinafore become shorter
Thank you for the info. Received the letter from school last Friday to attend Admin Day (Oct) & Orientation Day (Nov). The letter also informed which class DD is going to and under which house color as well.
Hi HHMummy,
Same here! We also received a letter asking us to attend the administration day in October too. Which house colour is your DD being assigned to?
DD is assigned to red house.

RE: CHIJ St Nicholas Girls'
Dear Parents,
Can I check how many days of PE classes per week for P1? Wanna determine how many sets of PE attire to buy.
Thank you.
