• RE: Which Secondary school to choose in the East

gc:
Anyone know how much roughly is Ngee Ann Sec and Dunmen Sec for this year? My kid got 237, probably miss by 1 point for Ngee Ann Sec which is 238 for last year. Having a Pass in Higher Mother Tongue wont help right as this is not a SAP school. Any one with some info?

Hi, I can only answer for Dunman as my DD classmate who scored 232 got into Dunman. COP as shown in the booklet is 231. Hope that helps.

Hi everyone. I’m still not quite sure what the "Edusave certificate of academic achievement" mean? Does anyone know if it refers to students who are in thetop 25% or top 10%?

How many days are we given to submit our secondary school choices?

On the same note, is there a different thread for helping 2016 psle students choose secondary school?

Can I know if the result slip will indicate if you are eligible for Higher Chinese in Secondary school?

No, result slip show only yr HCL grade (if you took PSLE HCL).

So long as you pass your CL, you are eligible for HCL in Sec School (if the school offers this subject).

Wouldn't the child need to be at least in the top 30% as what I've read from MOE website :

\"Pupils who offer Mother Tongue Language (MTL) (i.e. Chinese/ Malay/ Tamil) or Higher Mother Tongue Language (HTML) (i.e. Higher Chinese/ Higher Malay/ Higher Tamil) at the PSLE and
are ranked among the top 10% of the PSLE; OR
are in the top 11% - 30% band who meet the language criteria (i.e., an A* grade in the MTL or at least a Merit in the HMTL)

may opt to study HMTL at secondary schools. They may offer English Language and HMTL in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination at the end of Secondary Four.\"

• RE: 2016 PSLE Discussions (Born in 2004)

Hi all, my dd just received the handbook for choosing secondary school.

I’m just wondering, since the COP indicated for the schools are based on last year, how do I go about choosing the schools? What is the buffer I should apply to my child’s actual aggregate? I recall reading a parent’s comment that during the year her child took PSLE, she did not apply for the school she really wanted to, which was Nanyang Girls, but turned out that year, the COP was a few points lower than the previous year’s.

Anyone who has gone through this can advise?

Thanks in advance.
Dd says a teacher was seen scolding a top boy for not finishing 2 qns from his Science paper. I thought that was uncalled for. He still has HCL tomm.

As adults not taking the PSLE, we dont know the pressure the children are experiencing in the exam. Dd's teacher did a MCQ paper with the class. She had 6 mistakes out of 30 qns. There are several in class who scored full marks.
Under such tremendous stress and expectations from teachers/parents, I think the children did admirably le.

This is a totally unacceptable behavior of a teacher.. Will her/his scolding help the boy??
Even if he/she feels 'what a waste' for the boy, he/she is the adult and should be matured enough to hold his/her emotions in check and not barrage the boy...

Would not one think that the poor boy is already feeling bad and disappointed as it is?? Why must the teacher 'add stone to a person who has fallen into a well ' (落井下石) instead of comforting him? He is only a 12-year-old kid, for goodness sake.

This teacher should be ticked off by the Principal for his/her insensitivity !! :spank:

Accordg to dd2, the boy looked v pale and worried aft the paper. He burst out cryg when the teacher scolded him. He topped his class at the prelims. So I cant imagine what is going on in his mind.
Sometimes I wish adults can understand that PSLE is just the first major paper in a child's school life.
Ds1 has a friend who is a top boy in pri sch expected to get 27+ but he got 24+ for PSLE instead. Had to appeal to get into sec sch. In sec sch he was top in cohort. Now in JC he is still top and doing a H3 paper. I dont think anyone remembered his PSLE score : )
PSLE journey is only the beginning ah.
Appealed to get into which secondary school? And 24x is still a very good aggregate in my books. 🙂

Yupe… I’m mentally preparing myself for results day judging by the standards this year.

PSLE really brings out the bipolar me. One minute I tell her it’s ok don’t worry " The next minute I kept grilling her "do u remember what you answered for this question??? Did u check your answers???" when I see a question posted here. Haiz…
