Hi can anyone help on these 2 questions with models?

      1) There are twice as many boys as girls in a class. 2/3 of the boys wear spects and 2/5 of the girls wear spects. If 42 more boys than girls wear spects, what is the total no of students in the class?

      2) John had 29 more 50cent coins than 10cent coins. After he had used 37 50cent coins, the value of 50cent coins was $3.20 more than the value of 10cent coins. How many 50cent coins and 10cent coins did he have at first?

      Thanks in advance!!

      1)
      By drawing a model,
      Boys : 30u
      Girls : 15u
      (2/3) x 30 = 20
      (2/5) x 15 = 6
      20 – 6 = 14
      14u ——- 42
      1u ——– 42/14 = 3
      30 + 15 = 45
      45u ——- 45 x 3 = 135

      Ans : 135 students.

      2)
      Before
      50c : 1u + 29
      10c : 1u
      After
      50c : 1u + 29 - 37 = 1u - 8
      10c : 1u

      0.5u + 8 x 0.50 - 0.1u = 3.20
      0.4u ------- 3.20 + 4 = 7.20
      1u ------- 18 (10c)
      18 + 29 = 47 (50c)
      47 + 18 = 65

      Ans :47 50cents and 18 10cents coins, totalling 65 coins.

      Hi alfretztay
      Thank you for your help!
      For (1), may I know how do you get --> Boys : 30u , Girls : 15u ?

Hi, can someone help to explain this answer?

Mary ____________ to class for the whole of last week and everyone is wondering if she was alright.

      1) has not been coming
      2) will not be coming
      3) had not been coming
      4) have not been coming

Obviously the answer has to be btw (1) and (3)… but can someone explain why the answer is (1)?

    • RE: Q&A - P5 Math

Hi, can anyone kindly help to explain this question using models (not algebra)?

Wendy bought 2/3 as many skirts as pants. She spent a total of $280 more on the skirts than pants. She spent a total of $520 on all the items. If each skirt is $8 more than each pants, what was the cost of each skirt?

      Thanks in advance! 🙂

My lips are rather sensitive and dry, I use Burt's Bees lip crayon. Sometimes what I do is I apply organic lip balm first before using lipstick. A brand that works for me is Sugar. Try their Advanced Therapy Lip treatment then after that apply lipstick. 😄

Do you get the Burt's Bees product locally? Besides, the lip crayon, do you use other products from Burt's Bee?

      Thanks for sharing

I love Burt's Bees. Great for sensitive lips like mine. There was a time I used their lip balm as the base and followed by lipstick. They have a nice range of lippies. Cheap and good.

My current fave lippie brand is Bobbi Brown. Have used others like Shu Uemera and Clinique, and no problems with those. I'm quite particular about the type of lipsticks as the wrong product can cause an allergic reaction.[/quote]Thanks jasmine, schweppes for sharing! 😄
I managed to find Burt's Bee lip balm via Qoo10, q cheap.
Have tried once, hmm not too bad!... 😄

      Green-apple:
      Dear all,

My DS is P2 this year and we have no intention of sending him for math tuition. May i seek your suggestion which guidebooks shall i get to prepare him for P3 math (during year end school holidays). Getmethinking or Visible Thinking in Maths? Any other suggestion?

      Thanks in advance
      Hi Green apple
Visible Thkg is more of a basic guide/assessment book that follows closely to the school topics (I understand some schools are using VM as their textbooks). Good for introducing new concepts.
On e other hand, GMT book only has problem sums (thick book abt $16) but what I like abt the book is they always illustrate 2 very similar yet different problem sums and the explanations +model drawings are rather clear.
