slmkhoo:Thanks, slmkhoo, I thought so too and am confused with the 'are' answer provided and my confidence in my answer wavered.I think the correct answer should be 'were'. I can't help with explanations as I go by 'sound'. It would take too long to look up the grammar rules, sorry!Jade:One more that needs help, why is the answer \"are\" when statement is about thing of the past:
Flowers (are) commonly used to design clothing worn in the 1960s.
Options: are / were/ have been / had been
Gosh, the more I mark the more confused I am...guess my only grammar foundation is also not there.
TIA.

RE: Q&A - PSLE English
Many thanks in advance if some can help on why the answer below is "bid":
No one at the action dared bid on the priceless ‘Star of the Sea’ pendant.
The options are: bid / bids / have bid / bidding

RE: How to salvage marriage
Hi fireflyserene, hugs to you. How many kids do. Have n how old r they? Has he been a good father to them? IMO, it takes two to commit to make a marriage works n to salvage one that has derailed. If it is only one sided, then it will be very tough. If he is willing, sometimes, marriage counselling may help. But whatever it is, start living for yourself n your kids, get your finances in order, good to be financially independent. If he is not worth it, don’t let him ruin your daily happiness in life.

RE: Dealing with a Negative Child
There are gems of wisdom from the various parents posts here. Sometimes(or rather most of the time), when dealing with people n relationships, "fast is slow, and slow is fast". I hope u will give some thots to this n work on mending the relationship first. Take a step back for the time being when it comes to checking your DD’s work. All the best.

Agree with sun_2010, jade!Sun_2010:
I find that there is a fine difference between acknowledgment and praise. I read in a book, that praise is judgmental and infers parental approval whilst acknowledgements simply recognise. The book further explained that praise is conditional upon the judgment of the person giving the praise. However what is important is for the child to receive self satisfaction without the need for adult approval. Acknowledgement accomplishes that by fostering feelings of being worthwhile without relying on the approval of others. It build self confidence and self reliance rather than dependence on others for feelings of sef-worth.
Hi Jade,
But not in so many words. What you have quoted is very interesting.
May I kmow the name and author of the book? I would love to read it.
TIA
Can you please share with us the title.
I do praise my son whenever he accomplishes his tasks. But I am beginning to suspect that he may have become dependent on it now.
hi Autunnbronze, Sun_2010
You've got PM.
