When we asked our DS to do these assessment books, there are some questions we could not explain why the answer is like that. Is there any guide book for Synthesis and Transformation that is detailed enough so we can study it?

The series recommended below is useful as it has detailed notes on the rules of transformation. I used it for two years with students who were weak in S/T and they improved tremendously. However, it's not exhaustive. For them to get full marks in S/T, they must do their grammar drills as well, e.g. they need to be sure of how to change adjectives to nouns and vice versa. This type of exercises can be found in the general grammar assessment books.

      Hello there!

Here's a book that we recommend for Synthesis & Transformation for P6!
You may click on the title to be brought to the book's synopsis.

      Hope this helps!

Hi. Thank you for your reply. We have that particular book but we found it insufficent. There are some exceptions which we cannot find the answer 😢
That is why we need an tuitor . Now its quite hard for us to guide our kids by ourselves. Agree?

      Definitely correct! :rotflmao:

And the rest days of this semester will be the same .... šŸ˜‚

My son joined the 1.5hr in K2 and just started the 3hr class in for P1.

He's quite timid and has been crying since the change from childcare this year, so before Chinese class, he cries for an hr b4 going in. (yup, i'm the mother of the crying boy at Sunday's 12.50pm class) whereas he was fine in K2. his teacher (same teacher as his K2 class) was v patient with him, holding him n encouraging him to get him to join the class.

For me, at P1, the main purpose is to expose him to Chinese which we rarely speak at home. since he started the class in K2, he is able to speak some Mandarin. They do have Chinese classes in his childcare but he refuses to speak the language.

and also, i was so stressed out on sunday with his crying b4 the class, i forgot to thank the mother whose son was in the same class as mine. she asked her boy to come out of the class with a lollipop and try to get my boy to join the class. altho my boy refused the help, thanks so much (if you happen to be in this forum). hope we bump into each other on sunday!!!

My son also the same. Keep crying b4 the class. So headache! :?:

My son was in their gifted class. It not really for gifted kids, rather its just a terminology used for 3 hours class. He left 2 years ago.

      Materials - very good.
Class size - a big minus.
Environment - Not very condusive - very crampy.
      Teachers - Not bad
      Culture - Not bad

Thanks for your sharing. And could you share with other parents how s your DD s results? Is that improved a lot? Thanks.

Parents, how much pocket money do you give to your Sec 1 children?

I get $2.50 for recess, and another $2.50 for lunch if I need to have lunch in school.

usually $4 or $5 per day if he eat at school.

    • RE: Is PSLE so important?

      ngl2010:
My son will be P6 next year. Prior to this year, he only has Chinese tuition once a week because we do not speak Chinese at all at home. This year we added English tuition and Science tuition just because his results dropped from 90+ to 80+. How not to feel stress when getting to good secondary school is already hard enough but now there is IP and IP cut-off point is higher than O Level?

Why create another level of elitism?

If IP cut-off point is the same as for O level, wouldn't it be less stressful for parents and the kids?
No pain no Gain. As i can see from your words, chinese tuition once a week is that enough for a P6 students? Adding of English tuition and Science TUition is Only Just Because your son s results dropped then you looking for help from tuitor?? Are you sure you are really helping your kids using the correct way?

Why you never exam and realize your own mistake ? BUt only keep saying anything about level elitism? Hey, it seems like you are not living in Singapore? How come you dont know this is a contury full of intellectual elitism? You are seeking for less stressful life? Go holiday la...Right? :siao:

Be grateful to those people who ever helped you before.

My son attended Jiang for 6 months in P5 and I have to say that we were disappointed with the result. His result dipped from 80+ to 60+. Now after we stopped and got a private tutor instead, his result is back to 80+.

The classroom is so big (at least 20 students) and so cramped....

Can i ask why you feel Disappointed with the result? Is that only bcoz of the class is big? so how many students in your son s class at school? Are you really concerned about what the teachers did and appreciate it? Or maybe it is your own reason?

So please say something useful and share with other parents instead of keep complaining. :siao:
