Hi Janet,

      Thank you for sharing.

I think the best way is to refer to the book as and when the question is called for?More like a reference book?

      Thanks .

      Best Regards,
      Joy

      Hi Joy,
If I have to open that book to read, I'll asleep even if the book is interesting. For MCQ, my son does the 'elimination method' so as to decide bet 2 best options.

      Hi Janet and Champion,
Hi Joy,
I download and print out past year exam papers. When I see certain questions like 'germination of seeds' for eg, I will then write the page number found in Ultimate Science beside the question for him to read.
To expect my son to pick up and read it is HIGHLY impossible.
He will tell me the chapter his teacher is doing in class, then I'll ask him to refer to the diagram like 'cells' to learn how to label the parts.

For me, when I read those assessment books or past years OE Questions - I flip behind look for the answer and then go back to the Ultimate Guide to further enhance and confirm the answer. Sometimes those printed answers are rather \"short & sweet\" so I will also refer back to the Ultimate Guide to look for more \"clues\".

Thanks for your recommendation previously that I am using & reading this book frequently. :celebrate:...DD1 will always give me the kind of look,\"Oh, Mummy doing Science Revision again!\" πŸ˜‰

My son always says I'm studying and I'm his walking Science book. Told him to refer to his guide books...and he tells me he has no time to do that.
Is it better than the orange eagle book that I have?

      I have BOTH πŸ˜‰
However, I personally prefer the PSLE Ultimate Science.

what is the name of the eye cream?thanks

      kwokwc:
Hi, try pharmacy if they still sell eye cream. It is quite good, as my son used to get swollen eyes easily and I will apply the eye cream for him. If pharmacy are not selling then have to see doc to get already. We use to be able to sell in TCM store but now they don't let us sell anymore.

They will have some prog, like choir, orchestra, wushu etc...can be quite long.I remembered last year i brought my young one there, he was so impatient.

After that, prize presentation, followed by light refreshment.

      Hope this helps.

Can i check if anyone knows how long is the prize presentation on Thursday? I have to rush back to work after that so have to estimate what time it ends...

Anyone who has been to the ceremony previously and could give me a rough idea of the sequence of events to be expected would be greatly appreciated!

      Thanks much!

    • RE: All About Preparing For PSLE

      Hi Kitty2

I spotted some answer is incorrect in A star series booklets while dd was doing in the past, So maybe u have to double check.

      Rgds

      kitty2:
Hi, interestingly, I can't bring myself to make my children do the Fabian Ng and Andrew Er or the 4-in-1 challenging math books. I find such drills boring. When a child cannot solve slight variation of qn, it probably means he/she has not completely grasped the concept. When a child find some qns extremely difficult, it means he/she has not been exposed to difficult qns.

The 4-in-1 challenging math book is NOT challenging but just very tedious - requires the child to do many steps just to get the ans.

To be exposed to challenging qns, I think Math456.com qns from top sch good and also the A* series from Learning Interactive. I also subscribed Math Oasis for my children which they enjoy.

Careless mistakes can't be helped but I remember I was rather careless when younger but I'm also aware of my weakness and I had to remind myself - danger zone - tend to make careless mistakes and thus, take special effort to check those steps first b4 proceeding. I also made my kids check their Math paper by working backwards or use alternative mtd to solve, so as to confirm answers are correct.

If a child does not have enough time to check answers or complete the paper, it means the child needs more practice to solve in a faster pace. I don't believe in drilling - doing many qns of the same type. I believe in doing enough qns of the same type to get the speed and move on to the different variations and be exposed to challenging qns.

These are just my personal experience and preferences. Hope nobody will get offended πŸ™‚
      Hi,

Thanks for sharing πŸ˜„ May i know where is Learning Interactive? Is the A* series for only Maths.Do you have any good recommendation if a child is weak in section C?

      Thanks for sharing :D
Hi Brenda,

      Agreed.
M angry as she should not start fb in the month of exam, and played it to the max during the exam time.I din know until today.

what i told her was, all your effort gone down to the drain due to the distraction that she has.Kid being kid, when they do something, they dont really think.

All my friends, take away tv, laptop , two weeks before exam, and mine is starting a new hobby then...sigh...

      Hello all,

Hope to find out from mummies here, do you allow your child to have facebook account and let them use it as a means of communication with her classmates?

Do you allow them to use Facebook especially during the last SA exam?

I was furious, because my girl actually open up a fb account herself and use it when she was supposed to be studying for exam. Her results ended up only improved by a mark.

      Thanks for reading.

      Joy

      Hi Joy

I would prefer not as they may link to other subjects rather than discussion. If really no choice then have set the timing as children nowadays are not like our time.

      Just my 2 cents thought
