Is the rest of the country experiencing what I’m experiencing?
I know of so many people who have caught the flu bug. And for the first time ever, my entire family of four is down with flu at the same time. Symptoms are a low grade fever that comes and goes, coughing bouts, running/blocked nose and some feeling of bloatedness. It’s been nearly a week and no one is really on the mend. I think there is a very contagious flu epidemic going on. I want to find out if this is indeed the case.

RE: Peirce Secondary School
Both of you made a good point about keeping up standard. I cannot understand why MOE is merging schools with vastly different cut-off points for secondary admission, eg, in the cases of Peirce-Bishan Park and Beatty-Balestier Hill. It’s simply unfair to students who had carefully made their S1 selection.
It’s a joke that MOE made students who appealed successfully but missed the cutoff point (even by 1 point) return to their original school while it is effectively allowing a backdoor entry of students into schools with far higher cutoff points through a merger. -

I’m also concerned about integration. Not sure if there is any major rivalry between the students of Peirce and Bishan Park since the schools are almost side by side to each other. This shouldn’t be an issue in 2018 for students admitting in 2018. But the Year 3 and Year 4 students in 2018 may have a harder time getting along with one another since they would have formed their own cliques.

Yes, I just heard about it. Hope MOE will take into account the additional space required from the merging of two schools. The school canteen, for example, is just about adequate for the current student population.

RE: Peirce Secondary School
I’m sorry to hear about the bad experience of your friend’s children. As of now, I don’t believe it’s a universal issue in this school.
I like the fact that Peirce takes advantage of, and incorporates its lessons around, its proximity to nature. For her science lesson last week, DD and her classmates went down to the canal in the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park to collect water sample for clarity testing.
The school is also organising a run round the park for students and their parents in March. Good for family and teacher-student bonding. As the saying goes, it takes a community to educate a child.
As an aside, Adam Khoo is a polarising figure. Some think his motivation methods are effective while others believe they are too regimented. -
RE: Peirce Secondary School
This is a quiet thread that hopefully can be livened up with more regular contributions from parents. I’ll try to do my part.
My DD is in Sec 1 this year. So far she is enjoying her secondary school life. Long may that continue.
The school held a breakfast meeting for parents to meet teachers this morning. It’s a nice touch and less formal than the usual meet-the-parent sessions that I used to attend when DD was in primary school. This is a good way for parents to get to know teachers and verse versa.
In contrast to her primary school, Peirce has a small student population, which makes it easier for everyone to get to know one another. This I like.
