Just for thoughts. For school buses that park in schools waiting to pick the pupils, will they be charged parking fees too?

If that is the case, I think all parents with children taking school bus will be unhappy. The bus companies will increase bus fares!!! T_T :scared:
Can always offer 15 minute grace period.

Claiming no children and what on Earth surfing kiasuparents.. The word parents = to have kids. Let's think again his/her (troll) ultimate objective keep harping on it for days...

Exactly...Don't they have better things to do?

And someone here has better things to do by boasting about his 2 sons in RI while another lurks in the forum and make snide comments

in bunk is ok. But I seriously will consider using that.
he might get laugh at using baby products.
I recall during my BMT days, I had a platoon mate who always had bottles of lotion, powder and god knows what in his backpack after each booking in. Some of the platoon mates, who were more mean, persistently made fun of him and called him a \"Mummy's Boy\" to the extent that after each booking in, he would lock himself in a toilet cubicle for a few hours until lights out to avoid the taunting. He ended up getting out of course and had to go for the next run of BMT, another 3 months as a recruit!

In my dd's cohort in NYGH, we do not know of any ex-nyps whose scored less than 260. There maybe some but the number is not significantly noticeable.

Very impressive results but based on this year's (and some of the previous years') COP, 260 can't get you a place in NYGH without the benefit of affiliation.

From what I can see so far, it seems that most forummers have reservations against the NYGH affiliation because it is a through-train to HCI, which is one of the top JCs. I guess that most feel that entry to HCI (and RI), being the top 2 IP schools in Singapore, should be based on pure merit and not through any affiliation.

Oh! You are against the affiliation scheme at NYGH only because it is a though train to hci which is one of the top jc but the affiliation scheme is fine at other sec schools? So is the argument about meritocracy only at NYGH ?

By the way, diversity can never be as successful as rgs because higher Chinese is the only mother tongue language offered at NYGH.
There is no need for you to immediately jump to defend the status quo in NYGH, even though you are benefitting from it, to the extent that you misunderstood my earlier post.
I did not oppose the affiliation per se but was only trying to convey what I have seen from all the posts and the fundamental reason why there is opposition against the NYGH affiliation.

By the way, I am not a vested party as my son will not be able to benefit from the NYGH affiliation.

The issue with this type of rank-based reasoning is that heaven forbid, if one day HCI & RI are no longer the top 2 schs, does that mean that pure merit criterion no longer applies to them but to the new top 2 schs? What happens if HCI/RI level up to top 2 again the following year? Then pure merit criterion will again apply?

Will such flip-flop policies work in the long run? :?
I don't get you, there will be no flip-flopping even if the 2 schools slip in ranking so long as the new top-ranked IP schools are subject to the same constraints. The focus is on the institution and not the individual schools. Or better still, if the stipulated policy is that all entry into IP program should only be based on pure merit to uphold the principles of meritocracy and equal opportunity, then there should not be any mistaken accusation of flip-flopping.

By the way, rank-based policies are common; for example, a CEO has a more stringent set of conduct guidelines to comply with which he won't be subject to after vacating the post. No one talks about flip-flopping in such instances.

      wonderm:

As I shared earlier, this is not an option unless he studies medicine or if he is offered certain govt scholarship. Details about NS disruption can be found on mindef website.

There were 2 types of disruptions during my time:

      1) Enlisted in Dec before 'A' Levels result (or Mar, after the 'A' results) to BMT. Apply to univ in the meantime. If accepted to (only) Med/Dentistry locally or overseas, can disrupt in Jun to join the cohort starting Yr 1 in Jul, after serving 6 mth (for Dec enlistees) or 3 mth (for Mar enlistees). The balance of 2 yr or 2.25 yr will be served out after they graduated 5/6 yr later, as MO/DO in NS.

      2) Enlisted in Mar, supposed to serve 2.5 yr so scheduled to ROD in Sep 2 yr later - which will miss 3 mth of local univ and thus made to lose out on one year c.f. to the Dec enlistees. Mindef will allow ALL disruptions to take place in Jun to start univ with the Dec enlistees, so there's no delay of a year. The balance 3 mth to be served during Yr 1 univ vacations. Need univ acceptance to process disruptions.

Note that only those accepted for Medicine/Dentistry is eligible for #1. Nothing else entertained.

Wonderm is right. There is still a 3rd case, those who are granted PSC scholarships can disrupt after 6-9 months of service to make it in time for the academic year. They will then serve their remaining NS liability upon graduation.

As for #1, disruption is only available for those pursuing medicine/dentistry in local universities but not overseas ones. There is a recent case of a NSF who went AWOL so as to start his medicine course in Cambridge one academic year earlier but ended up being charged upon his return.

Hi Mummy Jennifier, if your son just took his A-level, any successful admission into the local universities will only be valid for academic year 2018 onwards. So even if he is enlisted in Dec 2015 and serves 24 months, he should complete his NS by end-2017, which means you are worrying too much. Where's the disruption? :scratchhead:

A neutral party like me got pissed off reading the last few pages over at the other thread. Totally uncalled for with all the name calling and personal attacks. Seeing how one group of PAP supporters ganging up to whip a solo opposition supporter disgusts me.
