Been relatively new to this forum and enjoy reading the many posts and tips that all of you share. Many thanks.
Reading through the PSLE forum, it seems like parents like us are more stressed out about the PSLE than our kids. Inadvertently, we ‘transfer’ our stress and expectations over to our kids through our words and actions… I am pretty guilty of that myself.
DD had a tough time with the Math paper on Friday, was surprised as she is usually a 90+ scorer in school and the paper from what I read was not extremely hard. Talking through with her, I found out that she was so stressed that she practically ‘blanked out’ and could not think clearly. I feel sad for her and also guilty that I was probably the one who stressed her out.
Took her out on Sat for a break and hopefully she recovers from the setback and bounce back for Chinese, Science and Higher chinese papers rest of the week.
Stressful times indeed…looking forward to the break on Weds!

RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
Is it really necessary to get 230 to do IB. Look at the International schools, do you think all the kid's there can score 230 if they sit for PSLE?
Hi dovetail, per your input above, I agree with you that 230 should not simply be the criteria and I believe SOTA will give consideration for young talents with the passion for the arts and the determination to succeed.
At the same time, let's not put down students at the International School, many of them choose to go to these schools because of the IB program and the all round education system. My DD scored 255 for her PSLE and is currently at one of the international schools, there are many others who scored 230 and above in the same school... -
RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
You are right… checked the offer letter and they did not indicate the COP. I am not sure where I get the 230 from - perhaps I am mistaken but thought I did hear/read somewhere that’s the COP…
Thanks anyway. Cheers. -
RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
Hi Jtoh - I thought SOTA’s cut off point is 230?

Thanks carmen21. All the best to your DD, hope she will get her confirmed offer letter soon. Cheers.

RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
Hi my daughter just received the confirmed offer letter for Ballet today. I am not very familiar with the school, does anyone have any input/feedback about the school and whether she should accept the offer? She is very passionate about dance but I am not sure if the school is strong academically. Many thanks.

RE: All About Kids' Eye-sight
Hi Peopot - OrthoK is a hard contact lens that my DD wears at night before she goes to bed and she takes it out in the morning before going to school. It supposedly 'reshaped' her cornea and in a period of 1 week she managed to get to perfect eye sight and will not need glasses. however she must be diligent and wears it regularly, else her original cornea shape will return. The lenses has to be custom made and ordered from the US. I bought it at thru mee mee optics at bukit timah plaza. It's quite costly though at $1800 per pair which includes all the follow up, consultations and they also re-ordered a pair when the initial pair did not work well. so far so good though initially she had a hard time trying to put on the lenses. she only agreed to do it because she is very into ballet and as she is not allowed glasses during dance and this treatment is one alternative which allow her to see better.
You can check out http://www.allaboutvision.com/contacts/orthok.htm for more info...
Hope this helps... -
RE: All About Kids' Eye-sight
Mavis:
I wonder if there's anyway to improve their eyesight before it starts to get worse as my girl is slight shortsighted and she's only 4.
Hi Mavis - have you considered Ortho-K lenses? My DD has been using these lenses since January and her eye sight (used to be 250L 300R) is now \"perfect\". She does not need to wear glasses to school and for her ballet which helps a lot. She is 12 btw... -
RE: St Joseph's Institution International
Hmm… understand that they have local students who had completed IB. Will probably attend one of the open houses to find out more. Thanks for your input.
