Looking for student care center in Tampines. Somewhere central is preferred. Any recommendations?

    • RE: Opera Estate Primary

IMO, it is because the school is situated in a private estate and isn't very accessible by public transport. Very secluded and not visible from main road.

The school has a good mix of international kids and has produced some students who went on to pursue studies in schools like VS, RGS, RI...as seen publicized on their website http://oeps.edu.sg/

      yap_susan:
My ds is still harping on my lost during phase 2c balloting.

Maybe I ought to call my first choice school tomorrow to be put on waiting list. :?
You should. That's what I did as well. My DD is still asking me today \"why other students get to go to this school, and why not me\"? :slapshead: 😢

So I told her that there are too many students enroled so let's hope along the way the school will call us when there is a place for her.

Hopefully we all have our wishes come through. 🙏 :xedfingers:
Close proximity is still our concern since we got balloted out of our preferred school which happens to be a very popular school.

I believe schools will look at close proximity, academic and non-academic results if required. It's not on a first-come, first-serve basis.

@amslck: yes, just go ask to be on their waiting list. i am doing that too as our first choice is still the nearest to our home. there maybe hopes before school terms start, after P3, etc…we never know.

@NoeNothinG: they should let you know. else, how you can decide to pull out and go with another choice if you need to ballot? hmm…

@LKVM: The school that I enroled my DD is not in HDB area. And when I was there to register, the students are pretty obedient and not rowdy. Again, it's hard to judge by spending a few hours in the sch but I have a good hunch and of course, I hope I am right when DD starts her terms there 🙂

@poppy15: Ya, that's the consolation I got from my hb...He too said all sit for the same paper ultimately...so if want to compete, compete when PSLE comes... 😂

    • RE: 2011 P1 Registration Exercise for 2012 In-Take

What's left in Phase 2C(S) and beyond cannot be labeled as \"crap\"...some are just not very accessible and do not produce top-notch academic results as compared to those \"branded\" ones. I am one of those who went and applied in Phase 2C(S) after being balloted out in those popular schools. The school which I enroled my DD in is a \"decent\" school that offers a nice schooling environment. Also, some of its students have managed to move on to study in top sec schools after their PSLE.

I can't deny that some schools around my neighborhood that are still offering vacancies in Phase 2C(S) are not as good as others in terms of their academic results, but again it all boils down to individual preference and upbringing. I decided to place my DD further away because I wanted her to study in an environment that is better than what I have and observe in my neighborhood. The one that I have chosen for her is not very accessible but as I said, it has a nice schooling environment. The rest has wait to be seen as she progresses in her study.

Nowadays, doing PV also can't guarantee us a place. I tried applying for PV before and was rejected. Some told me that you will be chosen if you know who's who in the committee. Well, I guess I didn't know who's who and ain't a popular figure myself either...LOL. After applying unsuccessfully as PV and going through balloting unsuccessfully (damn \"suay\" ar...LOL...), I will not choose to go down that path again 🙂 It's a good lesson learnt for a KS parent like myself who tried to compete with the rest of KS parents for a place in popular sch...if only the current policy can be reviewed and changed...life will be different now...

How is this school in terms of its academic and non academic devt? I heard it is quote \"getting better\" and unquote becos it is located next to St Hilda's.

For those who have their kids in this school, please share some insights.
      :thankyou:

I would still hope to get my kid back to 1st choice if given a chance. Perhaps just go on waitlist and see how. If still no luck, then the higher being is telling me a no means no

Yup, there is the waitlist and like vk2010 said, there is also the GEP route.. but maybe before that your child is doing so well in the new school and you have changed your mind..

Don't be sad dear.. I'm sure all will turn out fine in the end... :snuggles:

Thanks, RRMummy. I am hoping to put my gal in a co-ed mission school but failed. So 2nd choice is a girl sch but I know for the fact that many will be flocking to that school next week too. I am > 1km so chance is slim. But still, I am just going to register first and monitor. If all else fail, I will fall back to co-ed sch cos she has a little bro who will be going to P1 soon too :slapshead:

Thank you all for your encouragement. Lucky also got my hubby and friends to cheer me up. So all is not gone yet. Just hope for the best next week. Plan A fails, go with Plan B. If Plan B fails also, then Plan C, lor 😂 Six years of pri edu is a long way to go. Must make a wise choice. Though I know my 1st choice was my wise choice for my kid, the odds were extremely great. Gosh, now thinking back on why I took that road down, I am amazed myself. Nobody to blame but it's really all boils down to luck when one decided to gamble and forge ahead with balloting.

      go on waitlist

work hard and get a GEP seat and you can opt in again

Yeah, thanks! Whatever will be, will be. Now need to go fetch my kid and give some words of encouragement to her too 😄
