Dear Mums, Dads, and students, here's wishing everyone all the best for tomorrow's release of the PSLE results! :rahrah:
No matter what the result, I hope nobody will be disappointed or take it too hard. Of course we all want the best for our children, but I've seen students with top PSLE results doing poorly in secondary school, and average PSLE students doing well later on and studying in NUS.
Good luck!

RE: 2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy
Agree that it’s really important to understand how your child is faring in school before getting a tutor…this will help the tutor with his/her job too. Sometimes your child may just have a different learning style. And yes, it’s important to practice and make sure they get the fundamentals before just practicing questions blindly.

RE: All About Ideas for Birthday Celebration/Presents
How many people are you planning to invite to the party? For restaurants Swenwen’s has a pretty reasonable price. Another alternative is Fish & Co. What about just having an ice cream party at places like The Daily Scoop or Gelare?

RE: A good read - DID I MARRY THE RIGHT PERSON?
A very meaningful and thought-provoking read.

RE: Comgateway vs vpost
Yes, Comgateway opens packages…and their service is quite bad (vPost is only marginally better).
vPost is available for more countries…they just started offering their service for shipping from China. -
RE: All About Party Packs, Decorations and Stuff
If you are looking for really unique/fancy stuff, you can try:
- Party City at Holland Village and Raffles City
- Party With Us at Centrepoint and Valley Point
But of course, they are more pricey compared to places like Rochor Centre. Or what about local online party supply stores? -
RE: Achieving Financial Freedom - What does it mean for you?
KSP:
The need to work (for salary) is optional and could be part time or voluteer.... basically is just to kill time....
Agreed. And it's very important to regularly assess one's net worth, that's the most basic indicator of \"financial freedom\". But it's rather difficult here in Singapore with the constantly rising cost of living.. -
RE: About the STELLAR program
I’m no educational expert but I feel that the best way to learn grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure really is just to read and read - because the context is so important. When I was a child, I’d check the meanings of words because I wanted to understand what the story was saying. Memorizing and practicing with isolated sentences is boring when there’s no story.
Admittedly, I often have no idea what is "technically" wrong with a sentence. I just know that it’s wrong because it sounds wrong - and that’s enough to have a good grasp of the language. Unless you want your child to become an editor in the future… -
RE: Why is Tuition Necessary?
I think if parents send their primary school children for tuition, they really need to find the right tutors who can engage them and not be too strict or boring.
When I taught tuition in the past, the problem was more often than not a lack of motivation rather than lack of ability…
