Pupils who offer Mother Tongue Language (MTL)(i.e. Chinese/ Malay/ Tamil) or HMTL (i.e. Higher Chinese/ Higher Malay/ Higher Tamil) at the PSLE and

are ranked among the top 10% of the PSLE; or
are in the top 11% - 30% band who meet the language criteria (i.e. an A* grade in the MTL or at least a Merit in the HMTL)
may opt to study HMTL at secondary schools. They may offer English Language and HMTL in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination at the end of Secondary Four.

DS is taking his PSLE this year and has his eyes set on both SJI and Anderson. As both schools have vast difference, e.g., govt and independent, co-ed and boys, non-IP and soon-to-be-IP, etc, we're not too sure which school is a better choice for him so would like to get any advice from students or parents who have kids in either school. (The only similarity we noticed is white uniform for boys in both schools... haha...)

We're also considering the DSA option for both schools. Just not sure if we should give it a try... dilemma dilemma... :?: BTW, does religion plays a part if we've decided on SJI cos we're non-Catholic?!?

Know it maybe a bit early to decide on school selection but would really appreciate your kind advice, if any. Many thanks in advance...

I don't think religion plays any great part. My son too is in P6 this year. Last year we attended the open house of both SJI and Anderson. I liked both. We too are non catholics and I too was concerned if the environment is too influenced by religion. But after hearing the pricipals talk I think is is no longer an issue for me. There seems to be a fair number of non-catholic population as well, can't remember the exact ratio though. But it is something which put me at ease.
RI, ACSI are quite unreachable I think for my DS. So we too are aiming for schools like SJI, Anderson ... :hi5:
Did you attend the open house? What is your impression abt these schools please share.

Both of my son and nephew were from Catholic school (SJI and Catholic high) were not influenced after 4years and 2 years....and I think this is also a good chance to teach them to show respect to each other even they were from different religions.

I do not carry for them if the kids walks for short distances. However, when I fetch them from school which takes more than 20-minutes walk, I tend to carry for them...

I don't carry school bag for my two kids since P2 unless they need to carry extra bag or long walking distance. Used to see this mother of two(P4 boy and P5 girl) carry 2 school bags+2 water bottles (front and back) everyday and children just follow behind with “hands free”… .\"super mum\"!!

I'm Sure Your Gal Has Good Dancing Skill that Impress the Panel of Teachers during the Audition.
Sometimes During Graded Exam, Kids can B Nervous and Miss a Step or Two, Or Turn in the Wrong Direction .... And That Caused them the Near Miss to Distinction ....

She applied DSA for Mxx and SCGS and got confirmed offer from SCGS and waitlisted at Mxx. Friends told me that waitlist also stands a very high chance if you put them as first choice. At first, still hesitating which school to place at 1st choice, we went for SCGS dance performances and really impressed by the SCGS dancers with their dance skills and technique, think the performance really boosted the confidence and self-esteem of those taking part. My ds have decided to accept the offer given by SCGS and now she came home with a smiling face daily since first day of school. I am sure she got herself a right choice…..

Oh I have a Friend's Gal Also DSA into SCGS Via Gymnastics in Year 1 Too ....

My girl is currently in p3. she start the chinese dance cca since p2 and recently take another cca -badminton. she likes both cca, but two cca timing is conflicting with each other. so we have to chose 1. outside of school she also have ballet.

The fact is that school chinese dance win gold every year while badminton team is 2nd runner up.

I am wondering which cca to chose in order to have higher chance (benefit) to apply DSA in p5. Any suggestion?

Found out that only select 2 out of 200+ applicants ....
Very Tough Selection Criteria, Or MayB Quota very Few that Year ....
