    • RE: English tutor for P6

My opinion is that language tuition may not work as well as those of hard sciences or maths where there is some form of model answer especially for weaker students. Language tuition will require a lot more exposure other than tuition, e.g. reading articles of that particular language other than just tuition which will focus more on the answering techniques. Understanding the kid’s weakness as mentioned by @Ipadcoconut is important not just for English but any other subjects too.

No definitely not let nature take its course.

Maybe another way to look at it is providing scaffolding for your child. What type of scaffolding and how much scaffolding depends on the needs of the individual child. However, the most important part for a parent is knowing when to remove the scaffolding. Leave it for too long, the child will become too dependant on it. Too soon, the child might struggle too much and give up. There is certainly no magic formula but relies on keen observation on the parents' part to decide the best time to remove the scaffolding.

Agree with providing scaffolding and removing them when the time is ripe.

My kids’ school organised this parenting workshop. Talk about suggested parents’ role at different stages of our kids’ growth.
Pre sec sch- parents are like commanders
Teens - parents are the coaches
      Young adult- parents are consellor
      Adult- parents are consultant

https://postimg.cc/sBJT4jGR[/quote]Thanks for sharing! Like the analogy on the everchanging role of parents as listed above when the kids grow up, though will like to act that no matter what stage the kids in, we as parents will also need to serve as support for the kids to share their problems too. My 2cents worth!

    • RE: fr p4 to p5 .. results dropped

I think as parents we also need to adjust to the expectations as our kids go up the levels. Things get tougher and by maintaining the existing grades are already an achievement by itself. However, if the drop is too drastic, we should look at whether the learning methods are incorrect, or look for help/other ways to assist them in learning. Different kids will have their own best method in learning or absorbing concepts.

    • RE: fr p4 to p5 .. results dropped

The jump from p4 to p5 is something they may not have experienced and, thus may find it hard to adjust to the "higher" level of expectations. That happened to my kids and it took a while for them to really adjust. Expect sudden drop in grades for some of the subjects like Science for my kids.

Anyone has recommendation for science tutor for my kid? We are in the north east area. PM me the contacts if possible!
Are you looking for a 1 to 1 tutor or group tuition at a tuition center? They will be very different and you will need to know the best environment which your kid can learn. Not all kids do well in a group tuition class, just as not all kids may be able to learn effectively in a 1 to 1 setting.
