My child (number2) and I are very disappointed to be rejected at the DSA entry and the appeal. He took it very badly and thinks he is stupid and felt he should not bother with any educational pursuit. He reads very widely and knows quite a fair bit of O levels stuff for Math and Science. His weakness is his carelessness and lack of attention of details. I try to encourage him not to give up. (sob, tears and broken heart)
Frankly I am rather disappointed with the MT requirement. PSLE syllabus is too narrow to determine whether a child is able to cope with triple Science and accelerated Math from Day 1.
He does not look forward to the school he has gained acceptance saying the syllabus
is dull and he already know most of it (except MT, of course). I am seriously thinking to put him in an international school or home-school then sit for SAT, AP in a years’ time or try again at Year 3.
Does anyone has any advise or any idea what is the standard to expect for the Year 3 entry exam?
Would it be A level and Y1 university stuff?
Thanks in advance.

Looks like there will be 7 Y1 classes in 2015, instead of 6.

RE: NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)
There are 6 Y1 classes in 2014 with approximately 25 students per class.
I know it does not add up to 170 but the school have made it clear to offer only to deserving candidates instead of being pressured to fill up the seats.
Students with the right attitude and passion for the subjects will find the curriculum enjoyable and enriching.
Some sources estimated there are 10-15% girls. Maybe those are for early years or for certain batches/class. Others say it is about 20%. There is no gender discrimination but perhaps generally language and arts can be said to be a preference for girls.
As for group work and projects, it really depends on the teacher. Some let the students choose their team-mates others simply assign the groups randomly. I also understand that the sitting arrangement in the labs are according to your child’s register number. -

The above is only for the Class 2013.
The question whether the diploma is recognized is often raised in this site.
Nush website also has the names of universities past students had been admitted for 2008 to 2010. Just click \"academic curriculum\" and scroll down

I supposed it is whether the university is willing to accept a \"high school drop-out\"

The unique feature about Nus High: it is a geek paradise. If a student has the talent, he can go far. The school does not try to hold you back base on your age.

RE: NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)
So when it comes to select the Best in Chemistry/(Math) for say Year 3, the Year 3s with the acceleration for that will not be considered? :scratchhead:

I also heard a student sign up for electives on subjects he is already good at so as to bolster his CAP.
I would like to know what are KS parents’ thoughts on this CAP-bolstering strategy. My stand is I wouldn’t do it just for its sake. -

The official answer is as follows
http://www.nushigh.edu.sg/qql/slot/u186 ... 202014.pdf
\"Students who are granted exemption of a module may proceed to read another module at a higher academic level in lieu. For example, a Year 1 student granted exemption from MA1110 (pre-requisite to MA2112) may accelerate to read MA2112 in his/her Year 1 of study. MA2112’s grade will be computed into the student’s GPA of the semester it is read, and upon the student’s entry into his/her official Year 2 of study, into his/her CAP.\"
:? It didn't answer whether the exempted module is counted in as a 5. Perhaps that's why the apprehension that the Score will be lowered or disadvantaged a high achiever where awards are concern.
