hi fellow parents with P1-to-be kids in 2017, may I know the open house dates of BPPS and ZHPS, or how will I be notified of the open house dates of both schools? (Hope this is not too kiasu of me to ask now!
)
Both are under my radar as they fall within 1KM of my place. But I'd like to find out more about them...cos AFAIK:
BPPS: Not an ex-student of BPPS but based on wat I've heard about this school (\"every year must ballot\" - so it must be good? :p)
ZHPS: My son's classmates (2 of them will be registering there) and he wants to be with them
(Actually, one of this classmate's elder sis just completed her PSLE with flying colors. I'm kinda sold by the mum's sharing about the principal - very responsible, dedicated, and assures parents that the curriculum offered by the school will not require us to arrange for any tuition outside of school! :xedfingers: )
So, any discussion on both schools will be very much appreciated!
:thankyou:

RE: All About Primary One Readiness & Preparatory Courses
Hi fellow parents, i'm seeking out some suggestions here for Primary 1 preparatory classes.
At this moment, I've enquired with the following centres:
- Kent Ridge
- Kip McGrath
Both of which are located at Junction 10.
For Kent Ridge, I managed to take a look at the assessment papers the kids will be practising on, and I'm quite satisfied with it. Sadly, the given time slot (Sat morning) clashes with my kid's other activity.
For Kip McGrath, there wasn't such reference available. Instead the guy at the counter didn't quite convince me about their curriculum. He was saying there'd be computer exercises, and English. Then when I asked about Maths, he suggested that Maths \"can be done\" on alternating weeks.
. So although their fees is lower than KR's, I wasn't so into this one. (maybe other outlets are better?)
So...I was just wondering, if parents here have other recommendations, preferably around Bt Panjang/Bt Timah area, that I can consider inquiring with?
TIA!! :rahrah: -
RE: Weekend programs for 18mths old and above
Hi, not sure if this is the right section to ask. Admin, please correct me if thereβs a more appropriate section.
Iβm looking for weekend(Sat or Sun), 1 - 1.5hrly programs similar to that offered by Growing Up Gifted, Julia Gabriel targeted at 18mths old and above toddlers - where they teach ABCs, Phonics, with some music play involved, but locations preferred around Bt Panjang/CCK/Bukit Timah.
GUG/JG are not so convenient for me at this moment.
Does any fellow parents have any recommendations?
Thanks in advance! -
RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos
hi fellow parents, I've just started my kid on piano lessons and not trained in piano myself. Seeing loads of discussions happening here so I believe I'm able to seek some good advice here.

My kid's piano teacher has recommended that we get a piano for him to practice the notes home if we can.
I'm looking to shift to my new place in abt 4-6 months time, so I wonder if it's a good idea to get a piano now but having to move it to the new place later? Not a grand piano we are talking about though (most likely an upright piano)...cos I vaguely recall someone told me pianos should have a permanent location?
Thanks peeps! -
RE: Bukit Panjang Primary
yuuri:
hi, not sure if this helps....but i saw BPPS being listed on MOE website for Schools with a School-based Student Care Centre. Not sure if this means it has started?
We received notification of an in-house student care starting operations. Not sure of the date of commencement though...Dolphinlin:
Hi kchan
I not sure about the result. i am also ex-student there. wonder is there any in-house after student care at the school itself?
http://sis.moe.gov.sg/SBStudentCareCent ... areCentres
Cos as far as I know (my neighbour's son is studying there), there's no in-school after care, therefore she's placed her son with Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society, Blk 141 Petir Road.

RE: Schoolhouse and others?
Hi fellow mummies, can anyone share if there's any difference between Schoolhouse-style childcare and those that are not labeled with \"schoolhouse\"?
Is it true that teachers in Schoolhouse are usually locals, as compared with other childcare centres who will usually recruit non-locals ie. Filipinos as their English teachers?
Has anyone faced issues with their kiddos' English/Phonics taught by non-locals to be more US-based than British-based (which is the standard taught in our Primary Schools)?
Sorry for the many questions! Just had a chat with a friend lately about a childcare centre that I was considering, and she highlighted all these considerations to me which got me thinking.

RE: [Bukit Panjang/Bukit Timah/Hillview] Preschools
hi fellow mummies, i've been reading up here and it seems there isn't much discussion wrt \"Salvation Army Child Care\" at Fajar Road. I do know that this is a rather small centre and running on quite basic amenities. In fact I like that it's a non-airconditioned place.
But other than these factors, does any mummy have any feedback about the teachers and the curriculum offered by this centre?
Many thanks! -
RE: Any recommendations for playgroup/preschool in Bt Panjang?
Hihi! Tapping on this topic....I'm looking for preschools with curriculum from N2 (4 yrs) till K2. It seems most of those that I've come across at Bt Panjang area operate on childcare basis - which I'm not so keen as I do have a caregiver for my boy.

Ideally, I'm looking for schools that offers 3-4hrs program. If that's really not available, then half-day care will be my next choice.
As for the ones already shared here, here's wat I've found:
- Smiling Star: Their website indicated the childcare is located at Boon Lay. The one at BP Plaza is Hanlin Language School (?)
- Adelfibel: I have to say their rates are by far most reasonable
however their kids-to-teacher ratio seems on the high side (as I've read fm another forum).
Will any kind soul do some MORE sharing here please?
