My kid that is in tas is in Pri3 and I see that her work for tas she can write well but the tas teacher also told me that it does not mean that she can write this well in school because the topics may be different and it takes a while for them to catch the techniques of writing and learn enough phrases to know how to apply. After a while, I start to see that my girl is able to apply the phrases here and there but her compo in school was still so-so. But now especially since the writing she does in tas is no more memorisation but application, I can see that she can use the same techniques of ‘show’ not ‘tell’ and make her stories more interesting and ‘alive’. Happy to see that her writing is no longer dead and flat and her school teacher commented that she has seen improvement in my girl’s writing.

Ya agree with Monster Mummy. Diff centres appeal to diff parents. TAS is good for me. Detailed teaching and the teacher is willing to stay back to give extra help when needed.

RE: Comparing English Enrichment Programmes
Hi TAS,
I really hope you can have more NSA classes. My child has benefitted a lot from your english program. I was so happy when her teacher said she is one of the top for composition this time and that her paper 2 also showed improvement. I think with NSA, she would develop critical thinking skills even more. I heard that you were analyzing business leaders and political leaders during NSA and my friend says her child could even tell her what was good about Lee Kuan Yew and what was good about Low Thia Khiang during the recent elections.
I hope that my child can go for NSA soon as I do not want her to miss out. I also want her to develop her thinking skills and not just do well for exams. -
RE: School Teachers Working as Tutors
But how to know if teacher is good? Calling agencies rarely turn up good teachers, and if I do not know any good tchers by word of mouth, very hard to find these good teachers.
I urgently need a good tutor (1-1) for chinese but all those that I tried by agencies cannot teach well. They do not sem to know what to focus on and push for when teaching. Worse still, my kid ends up wasting time talking non-essential things -

RE: Recommended English Books
plum-cake:
Yes, I would also like more booksales..have you thought of opening a bookshop or an online shop? Your teachers and staff know books very well, when we go to bookshops, the sales people do not know how to recommend and of course they have no phrases. So I think many more people will get books from you if they know about you through a bookshop? :? Just a suggestion cos I think you have a unique thing here.
me too...quirkymum:
Hi TAS,
Can you do your bookfairs or book events more often? I tried to get a place but was not successful, my colleague also could not get a place. Maybe if you could have another one in late February or March, I am sure many parents would sign up. So far, I have not heard of bookstores offering creative writing phrases or vocab booklets to go along with the books so I know many of us want to get the books from you, just that when we go down to the AMK branch, there isn't much time to look at the books or there isn't the variety that you would have probably at a bookfair. Hope you can consider this.
I missed it and am in AMK. -
