Xin Min primary had balloting in 2006 for 1-2 km and balloting in 2007 for <1 km. The no. of vacancies this year has been reduced by 30. My teacher friend from Rosyth advised me that Xin Min is quite a good neighbourhood school. If you are within 1 km, suggest you go for the balloting. Think even if balloting, the rate of success is still reasonably good. Holy Innocent has balloting for < 1km last year. Success rate is about 50%.
BTW, dont understand how your alumni plan failed. Din hear any change in MOE rules. Alumni registration is under Phase 2A and not Phase 2B, and the registration closing date is today 11 Jul 08.

RE: CHIJ Family of Schools
Hihi, how does the school know you are an old gal of CHIJ Katong and not CHIJ Toa Payoh ? If based on report book, does it not all look the same ?

RE: CHIJ Family of Schools
Hihi, anyone know what documents do they require you to produce for Phase 2A2 ? There are so many CHIJs in Singapore. How would they know which CHIJ was your alma mater ?

RE: All About Dental
Hey Chief Kiasu, I just brought my 4 year old to the dentist. The dentist said she has a very bad tooth decay and suggested doing a filling. He then advised that this might actually accelerate the process in terms of exposing the nerve and bringing on the pain i.e. she might start to feel pain after the filling and if that happens, she will need a root canal treatment!!
All this sounds abit scary. Any advice on what we should do ? -
RE: [Hougang] Primary Schools
Thanks Bishan Mom, that’s good to hear. I guess you are referring to school buses right ? Hopefully the time spent on the bus will not be too long. I checked with the bus operator, he said it will take about 20 mins if mine is the last pickup point.

RE: All About Parent Volunteers (PV)
Hi Mom2boys
I stay nearer to Xin Min (less than 1 km). Hougang Pri is very popular but again will need to ballot.
Although I do not mind my gals going to a neighbourhood school, I do want them to go to a reputable one.
Well, I think it’s time to made up my mind. All this worrying is too stressful. Just enrol under Phase 2A2 rather than go through the agony of balloting. In any case, I am prepared to request for a transfer should I feel she is not coping later on. -
RE: All About Parent Volunteers (PV)
Which explains why I am still half-hearted even though my gal can get into Ai Tong. If I have 100% confidence to get into Xin Min, I wouldnt be fretting so much

RE: yowie reporting
Hi, I joined not too long ago too.
Like u, I also told myself not to be too kiasu but nevertheless found my kiasu trait coming out once it comes to Pri 1 enrolment.
Nevertheless, I did not put my child through any enrichment till this year (6 years old this year) and even then, I asked for \"permission\" from the kid
(Hee, brought her to the centre and asked her if she would like to study there).
Many a times, esp after I became a forum participant, I wonder if I had done enough or \"disadvantaging\" my kid unnecessarily.
Its tough being a parent nowadays.
But then think again, children bring you so much joy!!
