from my understanding, if the school is really popular, they will have a choice to pick who they want and are required/needed by the school. would not say guarantee.

some will go for interview. like job interview, they want to see what you can give to the school, rather than what you can get from the school! After selection is another issue. 😉

Oh I heard some would just call you in do PV without interviewing? Anyway had submitted the forms so just wait like job hunting.

Yes...not all schools will conduct interview when selecting PVs. But I think PVs are mainly handled and run by the schools' Parent Volunteer Support Group, so interviews are handled by them too (I may be wrong here). Some have to go thru panel interview, some may not have to go through interview, but there is still some \"screening\" based on what I gathered from the questions and contents in the application form, and some like Kuo Chuan (where I'm a PV) does not have any selection or interview process, the school takes in anyone who wish to sign up as PVs. So, I think, it really depends on how popular the school is, the very popular ones will have the luxury of selecting who they want as PVs. But no offence to anyone....is it necessary to go through panel interview for volunteer work like traffic warden duties?

Anyway, all the best to you in your PV application. Actually, PV is not just about getting your kid the chance to register in an earlier phase, but you get the chance to know the school, teachers and environment better.

Yup! agree with you, some will just call you in for interview, its only some school who will request for interview. Some good school will also just call and let you know that you have been selected and come for the meet up with fellow new volunteer to see which are the area that they need your assistance…

agree with Bishan Mom… its also an opportunity to see if that school is where you want to place your child in. it would be good to take a variety of job ( if they do have ) to have a better feel of the school.

At the school which I volunteered years back, there will normally be a session for all the PVs before they start clocking their hours. The principal will be there explaining how the the P1 registration process works for the PVs and what are the success rate based on historical numbers. So PVs who want to back out then can still do so.

From what I understand, MOE does perform checks / audit on the hours that PVs clocked, so schools have also started to be more selective on the PVs.

In the past, where CCAs were still held on Saturdays, working parents can volunteer their time on Saturdays. Nowadays, I heard that some schools "reject" working parents because they are unable to volunteer during normal school hours where help is needed.

The school which I wish to enrol my child in has balloting for Phase 2B >2km for last year. Wondering what is the chances like, wouldn't want to end up doing free labour and caught in Phase 2C not knowing which school to enrol her in by then & missed out on the Phase 2A for my hubby's former Pri school

Any mummy with sound advice. Really headache man!

              Hi Mom2boys

I stay nearer to Xin Min (less than 1 km). Hougang Pri is very popular but again will need to ballot.

Although I do not mind my gals going to a neighbourhood school, I do want them to go to a reputable one.

Well, I think it’s time to made up my mind. All this worrying is too stressful. Just enrol under Phase 2A2 rather than go through the agony of balloting. In any case, I am prepared to request for a transfer should I feel she is not coping later on.

                Hi All, 😮

Anyway I had submitted the PV forms to the schools. The only thing now is just to wait or should I always enquire about the status? Most of the applications on PV would be close in

Some schools said they would conduct interview in end of June while others said Aug 08 or Dec 08. Some allow you to perform the PV in 2009 onwards.

                  Hello 😄

I am new here, like to find out from all the experienced parent how to go for PV for my child born 2004. Is it a bit early?
I used to stay in Jurong west with my mom, near Rulang <1km, but shifted to Choa Chu Kang 5 yrs ago. And I have change my address to CCK. Any chance if I can still used my mom address to register my child to rulang, if I am willing to sacrify my time for PV? Anyone know which period of time rulang open for PV registration?

                  Really appreciate your advise.

                      Quoted from MOE Website:
                      ------------------
Children who are currently under full time care of foster parents may register for admission using the address of the foster parents provided:

                      * both parents are working full-time at the time the statutory declaration was made
                      * the foster parent is a grandparent of the child or a sibling of either of the parents and the foster parent is not employed.

Children who are registered using a foster parent’s address and residing within 1 km of the school of choice will not be balloted together with other children residing within 1 km of their school of choice. Instead they will be balloted together with children residing between1-2 km of the school of choice.
                      -----------------------------
so besides checking that you fulfil the above requirements, you also have to check if for Phase 2B (which is the phase of registration for volunteers), if there is balloting for those residing between 1-2km of rulang. you can always call up the school, 2 year in advance of your year of registration for the pv details.

Thank you jedamum for your info …

Rulang is a good school so not sure if they accept PV under phase2B? Need to give the school a call to check up.

Anyone any idea when rulang open for PV application?
