Hi ADave & Tokidoki
We are S’porean Chinese. Since the whole family was outstationed overseas for 6 years. my boy spent most of his growing up years overseas so MOE took that into account to be fair to him. So my boy is learning the language but it will not affect his overall result.
Just interested to find out what is a good CCA in Nan Hua? I noticed that Violin is not longer one of the CCA.

Thank you, my boy is exempted from MT now but we have requested that he continue to learn the language but exams results will not be taken into account.Hi mummyKoala,
When your ds joins his new primary school, request for a MT exemption form from the school office. Fill it up and return it to the sch office. They will submit it to MOE on your behalf. I don't remember providing any additional documents since the school would already have copies of the past academic results. -

Tokidoki, my boy is exempted from MT, he will learn the language but all his results from MT will not be taken into account all the way till \"A\" level.
Glad to know your boy is adapting well. I'm also pretty worried abt the Higher Chinese. Maybe you can get him some external help for chinese? At least help him catch up to P2 level.mummyKoala:

My boy is adapting well in school, the only setback is he is struggling for Mother Tongue. He was on leave of Absence (LOA). -

Hi
We (my boys and I while my husband is still overseas) have just returned from Overseas after 6 years and my boy has recently join the school in Primary 2 from term 3. (He was on LOA all these while.)
I have another 2 years old boy and would love to get to know more parents in the school.

RE: Is it easier to go University via the Polytechnic Route?
My former student whom I taught in Primary school and later, she came under me for tuition after I was asked for a transfer to a school nearer home before I outstationed with my husband overseas, took the Poly Route. She is currently accepted by both NUS and NTU for engineering course. She has accepted the offer by NTU due to her interest.
She was an average pupil but very hardworking to make up for her lacking in other areas. It was her hardwork that enable her to achieve what she has today. Her PSLE result was average and her “O” was average as she has been writing to me overseas. I always encourage her to follow her interest and I am rather proud of her achievement.
So it all depends on the child’s interest. -
RE: School Placement Exercise for returning S'porean children
Hi all
I am also seeking exemption for MT (Chinese) for my boy. We have just returned earlier last month leaving my husband back in Australia for my #1 to join a primary school here for term 3 to let him adjust and adapt to Singapore System. We have been away from Singapore for 6 years, more than 3/4 of his life.
Need your advise on how to successful getting the application through as my boy is struggling with the subject and also he is at a disadvantage compared to his peers who are here all the time.
I asked MOE who told me to apply to school, check with the MT teacher, told me to go direct to MOE. So what are the documents that I need to prepare to submit to MOE? We were based in Canada and Australia and there were no conducive environment for him to learn MT. -
