Hi Notto! i am happy to see your post. i think you're probably the only one with such old kids like me. Most of the threads seems to be for parents with younger kids.. i feel so old! My first boy is going for NS next year. Can I know how was your son's NS experience? DId you prepare him for it? My boy is quite a soft spoken child, dont do much sports, so I am a little worried whether he can cope in NS.. thank you.. hope you dont mind sharing..

hi, my son is also quite soft spoken.. but he didn't encounter much problems. i sent him for a prep program before he enlisted just to play safe. why don't you speak to your son and ask him how he feel? if he is worried, then maybe you need to prepare him more. if he is confident, then u can save $$$ šŸ˜„

After reading the article, I was wondering how to better prepare my DS1 and DS2 for National Service in the future. Then, as usual, I searched KSP for good advice from other parents, and found this \"NS Formulas\" under the Market Place category. It is supposed to be a boot camp / course with instructors to toughen up children / teenagers to prepare them for NS. Now, in addition to enrichment courses for academic subjects and CCA's, there's also enrichment for National Service. Amazing!

      :lovesite:
Yes, ns formulas is the one my son went for!! the trainer is good - i can vouch for that. no surprise that got this kind of service now. nowadays there are more and more reports of children breaking down or have discipline problem in ns. there was a recent report about ns boys being jailed because they drive saf cars around without licence?

Maybe it's good for boys to join uniform groups like NCC or NPCC. Then they get a feel of training , punishment , foot drill...

good idea and maybe have a 2-3 day camp in actual army barracks during the year end school holidays to get a first hand taste of how army life is like

Actually the trainer my son went to has this type of bootcamp. He holds it in Pulau Ubin and make the clients experience what bmt training is like.

My son went for a program before NS to become an officer. During the course the trainer who was a psychologist in mindef last time warn us that sometimes people have problems in NS because in school they are treated like the star with very good results, and at home they are the darling of the house. But once they go into NS, they become a nobody and get punished and shouted at. Some people cannot cope with this change. This case reminds me of what he said.

Hi Sony1970, their website is http://www.nsformulas.sg. They charge me $599. Total of 15 hours. Quite flexible how you want to arrange the training. For example the trainer comes to my house and he adjust to my son's schedule so every week is a different time.

Thanks Kudozapex. Yes the company also said the same things. Then they went into teaching this thing they call vista (which stands for values, inspiration, stress management, teamwork and something, i think it's attitude), which they say are the most important qualities of an officer. I must say so far the lessons are very good šŸ˜„

Thank you all. I have signed my son up for their OCS course! They seem confident that their course will be effective so I decided to let my son try. Hope it works. Thank you for giving me your advices!
