      Hi,need help with this.

      There are some theatres in a cinema complex. The average number of seats in a theatre is 224. 40 seats were removed and the average number of seats in a theatre becomes 219. How many theatres are there in the cinema complex?

      Thanks. :imdrowning:
      Total seats removed -> 40
      Average number of seats removed from each theatre -> 224-219 -> 5
      So number of theatres -> 40/5 -> 8.

      Swift Formula:
      No. Numeric, Try splitting the basketball up. So 35% doesn't play tennis, 25% doesn't play badminton. U will end up having 10% as the minimum.

      Ah! I know where my mistake is now. Thanks. 😄

      In a primary school, 75% of the pupils plays badminton, 70% play basketball and 65% play tennis. Given that at least x% of the pupils play all three games, find the value of x.

      Please help me. Thanks 🙂
      Rephrasing the question: \"In a primary school, out of 100 pupils, 75 play badminton, 70 play basketball and 65 play tennis. Given that at least x pupils play all three games, find the value of x.\"

      Not sure if my solution is correct. It gives another answer: x=35.

      Yes. A review should be done later on the necessity of such trips for children. It’s not a cultural/academic exchange or a overseas competition.

      I’m not yet convinced, and have always been wondering, even before this tragedy:
      - Objective: What does the school want the child to learn that can only be delivered overseas?
      - Planning: In the initial thought process, have alternatives seriously been weighed and actively sought out?
      - Execution: During the process, which stakeholders gain, which stakeholders suffer? Environment/health/safety and people readiness, risk assessment, success criteria, etc.
      - Measure quality of outcome: Have they been measuring and tracking benefit realization - in the short-intermediate term, has the child who experienced such trips indeed turned out much better than the child who hadn’t?

      Mrs Tan bought a tin of biscuits.
      Her son filled his lunch box with 1/5 of the biscuits and took an additional 5 biscuits for his best friend.
      Her daughter filled her lunch box with 1/5 of the remaining biscuits and packed another 10 biscuits for her friends.
      There were 18 biscuits left.
      a)\tHow many biscuits did Mrs Tan’s daughter take for herself and her friends?
      b)\tHow many biscuits were there at first?

      Can someone help me on this question?

      Janet and Kate gave away the same amount of money. Janet gave away 3/5 of her money and Kate gave away 5/9 of her money. If Janet has $142 less than Kate in the beginning, how much money did Janet have at first?

      Initially, I just went on and formed the equations...two unknowns and two equations...QED. :imcool:

      BUT this is P4 and it didn't seem right. :skeptical:

      Then thanks to sheepie, I came up with another solution. :idea:

      Since both gave away same amt of money, LCM of 3 & 5 is 15.

      J gave 15/25 while K gave 15/27

      Therefore, J had 25u and K had 27 u.
      => 2u = 142 ( J had 142 less)
      => 25u = (142/2)*25

      Nebbermind's approach is neater and simpler.
      Here's another one:

      Hi,

      Can someone help to solve this question with workings?

      At first, John had twice as many stamps as Mark. After they each gave away 12 stamps, John had 3 times as many stamps as Mark. How many stamps did John have at first?

      Thanks.
