      hi all

need to consult students and parents of students in SJI IB programme…

My son got 253 and i am considering whether to choose the SJI IP…a few questions:
      1) my son is weak in languages but strong in Maths and Science. is the programme suitable for him?
      2) i was told that IB is more project based and students are constantly graded via project work, unlike students sitting for just 1 ALevel exam. My eldest son’s army buddy who was from ACS International IB, said it is better to take A Levels as IB can be quite stressful.(they have to study constantly).however, my friend’s view is that IB is easier because unlike A Levels, the students are not graded just based on 1 exam…sigh! so would like to hear from students/parents, what is it really like to study in SJI IB?
      3) is it true that there are a lot of writings involved so the child will struggle if he is weak in that area?

      thanks much!

thanks emoh…yes, i have gone thru the posts in the attached link re the comparison between IB and A levels. am still fuzzy about whether the IB is suited for my kid…

actually, what is the entry requirement to our local universities for IB students? what score must they attain before they can be admitted to NUS/NTU? depends on the course? or is there a minimum score?

    • RE: Questions about SJI IB programme

      HI all

am thinking of whether to choose SJI as the first choice for its IB programme…here are some questions i have:
      1) is it true that IB is more suitable for those who are strong in language and there are actually a lot of writing involved? my son is strong in maths and science but quite weak in both languages so this is a big concern…
      2) how many percent of the students in SJI IB goes to Local universities? what is the trend like?
      3) what is the average IB score of the students and how many got full scores?

      Thanks.

      HI

My son scored 253. I am thinking of choosing Victoria School IP (first choice - last year cut off was 252), Cath high IP (second choice - same cut off as VS), River valley high (cut off 251), Temasek Junior College (250).. are the choices ok or should i put NJC (first choice, unlikely to get in cause cut off was 256) followed by ACS (I) also 256, then VS? if i do the latter, will it affect my chances of getting into VS?

      thanks

Choice should not matter, do you want to consider SJI IP too ?

HI, actually i am not sure about the IB programme...i was told that for IB, one has to be strong in writing and reading skills ...my son's English is not very strong. and between ACSI IB and SJI IB, i would think the former is more established... so if he can even get into IB at all, i would prefer that he goes to ACSI but then again, he won't be able to get in since he is way below the COP... i put in ACSI IB just to fill the place...To be honest, i don't know much about IB...was told that those strong in Maths and Science should do A Levels while those strong in language is suited to do IB... is that true?

      thanks for the suggestion...
