U can still try for 1st choice SJI IP (253) but also put 2nd choice SJI Exp (245) so after u are in SJI can still try for SJI IP at the end of Sec 2 for entry into Sec 3 SJI IP.

need to consult students and parents of students in SJI IB programme…

My son got 253 and i am considering whether to choose the SJI IP…a few questions:
1) my son is weak in languages but strong in Maths and Science. is the programme suitable for him?
2) i was told that IB is more project based and students are constantly graded via project work, unlike students sitting for just 1 ALevel exam. My eldest son’s army buddy who was from ACS International IB, said it is better to take A Levels as IB can be quite stressful.(they have to study constantly).however, my friend’s view is that IB is easier because unlike A Levels, the students are not graded just based on 1 exam…sigh! so would like to hear from students/parents, what is it really like to study in SJI IB?
3) is it true that there are a lot of writings involved so the child will struggle if he is weak in that area?

Congratulations that your boy has done well for PSLE. He deserved a big pat on his shoulders! Looks like your boy has done well overall, even in his weaker subject to have achieve the grade he is getting. As such, I personally do not think your son will have major problem coping with the language portion if he is willing to put in effort like what he has done for his PSLE.

In most schools these days, regardless IP,IB or O, to achieve a holistic development, project based work seems to be part and puzzle of the students’ life. Whether they are graded or not, all students should strive and put in their best.

Sadly, if the mentality of the students and parents are only focusing on graded subjects, holistic education will probably not do well in the usual "O" and "A" level school setting despite all the effort put in by these schools.

Dear Octopusmum, no one know what is best for your boy better than you do .As you gather and research on for more information, I wish you the best ability to gather all the needed information and the wisdom to make the best choice for your boy.

February: Terra Nova: Exploring the New Lands of SJI

On 3 February, 275 Junior College One (JC1) students came together for the very first time and were tasked to explore their new territories on S‐J‐Island. It was not long before new friendships were forged and laughter shared amongst them as they began their exploration as one family.

Orientation started off on a high note with the Josephian Challenge, where the new Josephians explored their new home and learned what is expected of them in the SJI family. A vital programme of the orientation was the heritage trail: the JC1s returned to the original SJI campus situated at Bras Basah Road (now known as the Singapore Art Museum). They learned about the vision and mission of De La Salle and his Brothers. At the same time, it reminded them of their responsibility to pass on the passion of De La Salle.

The camaraderie amongst the JC1s was further strengthened as they bonded over mass games and amazing race. They had to complete various stations all over Singapore, ranging from Sentosa to Gardens by the Bay and the National Stadium. Decoding clues and maneuvering around allowed them to form priceless memories and allowed each other’s strengths to be showcased.

Not only did the JC1s spend quality time with their tutor groups, they also bonded with their respective houses – Fintan, Lawrance, Marcian and Michael through house games. From playing capture the flag to a tug of war, the house spirit was at its highest.

The orientation ended with a blast at the Campfire. As the campfire was lit, the green flames are symbolic of the burning SJI spirit ignited in the hearts of the JC1s through the orientation. As they sang St. Joseph's Call with gusto, a homely feeling warmed everyone's hearts.

Maybe the numbers are now higher with the merging of JCs.

11. What will be the JC 1 intake?

From 2013 to 2016, there will be an initial intake of 80 students (from SJI O-level track and other secondary schools) at JC 1 based on the merit of their O-level examination results. For 2016, the 80 students will be joining the existing 60 IP students moving up into JC 1. From 2017 onwards, in addition to the about 150 existing IP students moving up into JC 1, there will be an intake of around 110 students (from SJI O-level track and other secondary schools) based on the merit of their O-level examination results.
