vectorbiz:Hi I hope this is true , may I know why you think so ? appeciated your view :)
The general feel is the aggregate is a bit lower this year due to the easier paper. The COP may not drop since you may have the same number of students with scores at/above last year's COP applying but I doubt it will increase.Quite safe. COP will likely be the same or a little lower.oliveminx:
By the way, in general, 2 points above last years COP, is it safe to get in? Fox example, last year school A with COP 250, we have 252 this year to apply this school, is it safe in general basis ? We just worry if the COP will raise by 3-4 points this year, because we have no visibility of the overall result for this year.
Any parent to share your view ? Thanks a lot !

I think as parents, you can lay out the pros and cons objectively and let her decide. Do tell her that she may not be in the same class as her friends even if she goes to RGS and will be making new friends. At this age, they can still be quite immature and be swayed by things like friends, uniform, etc.Cedar Girls is our first choice but she was upset and disappointed telling us the hard work she put in to PSLE to go RGS and now she cannot go . We told her about the stress etc and she says she can manage
Yes she wanted RGS but relented on NYGH after sharing with her about the Chinese culture etc..
Now we tell her we are still considering ..tough decision .
We want her to be happy for the next 6 years and not stress up -
I know of someone in the SBA class. She enjoys the class very much. I'm not sure if your girl can be selected though. Thanks for the link. I am aware of this website. But i am looking for more sharing of real experience of those who have gone through it or parents with children in it.
How is the SBA program in MGS? My daughter just got her PSLE results and considering MGS. She got 260. But she is not keen on the IB track. So thinking of going to O levels in MGS. With her score, will she automatically be in a SBA class? Thank you.

Hi I am keen for my daughter to go MGS too. Does all students in IP track go to ACSI for IB? or they need to compete to enter IB track? if not successful go to ACJC ?
Students will need to satisfy the criteria for promotion to the next level. ACJC is for O Level graduates wishing to take A levels. Students from affiliated schools can use 2 bonus points in the Joint Admission Exercise but they must still satisfy the eligibility criteria for JC before bonus points are applied. A place in ACJC is not assured as they need to compete wih other applicants in the JAE. The O Levels require 2 years of preparation so you cannot switch to it at the last minute. -

NYGH is quite stressful, with a lot of projects, assignments as well as exams. I know that one of the cohorts didn't do very well in the recent exams. Some of the teachers don't seem to be of good quality from the feedback I got. For some students, it can be better to be a big fish in a small pond rather than being a small fish in a big pond.
Hi , I am divided between Cedar girls and NYGH . My girl cop is eligible to apply for NYGH or RGS(IP) / and my question is- will you put your girl in Cedar Girls whom I heard from friends where the students are happy vs NYGH (stressful environment) ? Anyone is caught in this situation ? Please advise. I am not saying Cedar Girls is no good , in fact I like the school but my girl wants RGS as many of her friends are going .
If your girl prefers RGS, will she be unhappy if you don't choose RGS? What is your objection to the school? -

CGS means Crescent Girls Sch. MGS has a pretty good 'O' Levels programme but you may want to consider other factors eg MGS students tend to come from well-to-do English-speaking families and students have to attend the chapel sessions. Every year, they have a fund-raising carnival. In general, the Chinese standard at MGS is not that high. MGS has a strong alumni culture.
Hi! Do you mean Cedar girls? It's a good school, very academically focussed, but also pushes the gals in their CCA. Can be competitive especially in the top classes (but that could be the case for almost all schools), so will need to manage that...optmum:
Mgs olevel or cgs?.pls help
Thanks
Overall, my niece had a great learning experience there.
Perhaps other forumners can advise on MGS (O level).

Dear Parents, we are new to the posting system and are not familiar the schools,....our son's tscore is 234, should we chose clementi town (231), which is 15min walking distance from home, or Fuhua Sec (232), which is 35 mins away by bus ? My relative said Fuhua' culture is better (chinese based) and overall ranking or perception is better than clementi town. They also said for secondary school, it is not important for the kid to be near home unlike primary school. In short, Fuhua's \"better name\" is worth the travelling time. Any knowledgeable parent on the two schools or how important is travelling time mean to a kid, please advise. Thank you so much. :thankyou:
Different children have different levels of stamina and preferences. I think the travelling time does make a difference since the school hours are long (reach home 4pm-7pm). Being walking distance to the school has its advantages especially if the CCA is intensive. Some parents don't mind travelling 1h to go to a branded school but they have cars to send the kids to school or do carpooling. Ask your child since he is the one doing the travelling. See which other factors appeal. I think both schools are okay.
