HCI A level subject combi grades criteria seems baffling to me. What if someone has A1 for both languages but the core subjects have B4 such that average is B3. How do they then choose their subject combi? Also why is this requirement imposed only from
Feeder sch? How about JAE? They can choose any 4 H2?
Students can choose Science, Art or hybrid combination ...
Subjects available includes:-
Biology
Literature in English
Chemistry
Further Mathematics
Chinese Language & Literature
General Paper
Computing
Knowledge & Inquiry
China Studies in Chinese
Mathematics
Economics
Physics
Geography
Project Work
History
Translation (Chinese)
English Language & Linguistics
Am sure students can find subjects that they are good at from the list ... -

H2 Physics is 9749.
You need min B3 in Physics to H2 Physics.
H2 Physics must do with H2 Math. Therefore, also need min B3 in IM1 and IM2.
IM1 is Integrated Maths (1) @IP4, equivalent to OP Additional Maths ,
IM2 is Integrated Maths (2) @IP4, equivalent to OP Elementary Maths ?
Both HCI and NYGH (IP 4) took the same IM1 and IM2 papers -

For HCI boys going to JC1,
their MSG has to be at least 2.5 to take 4 H2 subjects.
In addition, students who wish to do a particular subject at H2 in college would need to score a minimum grade of B3 in that specific subject .
HCI promotion criteria is available at:
http://www.hci.edu.sg/admissions/high_school/assessment-promotion-criteria#assessment-and-promotion-criteria
However, H2 Biology must go with H2 Chemistry ... meaning you must get min B3 in Chemistry to choose H2 Biology & H2 Chemistry ...
For HCI combination, die die must get min B3 for both Math and Chemistry in Year 4 so that have the flexibility in choosing the JC1 sub combi ...
At least HCI allow students to continue pursue H2 Biology, not ask students to drop to H1 Biology just because pupil failed to achieve minimum B3, as long as IP4 student (pupil) scored minimum a C6 Bio, with Chemistry accompanying a minimum grade B3 or better.
How about H2 Physics, subject code is 9749 ?
also the same ?
in that minimum need a C6 Physics @IP4, with (Chemistry minimum grade B3 or better + strong Additional Maths background minimum grade B3 or better), since H2 Physics usually go along with A Maths, go hand in hand together ?
H2 Physics is 9749.

got to drop Bio subject, totally cannot take H2 Biology anymore, or HCI still allowed students to take H1 Biology ?
because if cannot take Bio anymore, means student left with no choice, got to take H2 Physics, if they are still opting for A-level Science stream. However, to be able to take H2 Physics at A-level in Hwa Chong, that would mean the student would also have taken Physics in Year 4 as well, and must have scored at least minimum a B3 in Physics @IP4
If student totally never take Physics at IP4, not allowed to go up to A-level and let student take H2 Physics, without having grounding in IP4 Physics.
Eg. Double Science students who took only Pure (Bio & Chemistry), at Upper Sec (3 and 4), but never take Physics
Hwa Chong Junior College is Not the only JC that impose this minimum B3 and above grade, in order to study H2 pure Science, at A level. Eunoia Junior College, is also another one
But some other JCs may not have this strict imposed rule

Sorry is MSG 3 equivalent to 65-69%? If what you posted is correct, then imho it’s more challenging as a promotion criterion.
For HCI, sec 1 to sec2 promotion requires average MSG of 6 (50%). From sec 2 onwards, the average MSG has to be at least 3.0 for promotion to standard IP. MSG greater than 3.0 but less than 4.0 will be \"promoted\" to structured IP (gearing for O level), usually 1 to 2 classes in sec 3. For those with MSG greater than 4.0, students might be \"advanced\" to sec 3. I do not know the considerations for school discretionary advancement.ACTC\" post_id=\"1943074\" time=\"1571910483\" user_id=\"60583:
Not all IP schools consider anything below B4 (60%) as fail.
A few IP schools I know would only consider anything less than 50 as fail (namely, RGS, NJC, ACSI, MGS; there is a small nuance on the overall aggregate point for promotion for ACIS & MGS, but generally each 6 relevant subject must have at least 50% and above).
For sec 3, regardless of standard or structured IP, the MSG criterion for promotion remains at 3.0. Students from structured IP take the same exam as standard IP, and will be promoted back to standard IP if their MSG is at least 3.0. There are re-exams scheduled at the end of November for those who do not meet 3.0 requirement. After the re-exam, some who do not meet the MSG requirement might still be advanced to sec 4 standard IP, others will join the sec 4 O level class.
For sec 4, standard IP students still need to meet MSG 3.0 requirements for promotion to JC1. Some (not aware of the number) will repeat in sec 4 O level class, or take re-exam for consideration for promotion or advancement.
Comparing with other IP schools promotion criteria, HCI seems to be the most stringent. I know RGS/RI only require GPA of 2.0 (50%) for promotion. Furthermore RGS GPA does not require all subjects to included.
Btw RI’s one is GPA > 2.4 (not 2.0) which equates to 60% but not all examinable subjects will be included (a bit like L1R5).
Yes, MSG 3 is equivalent to B3 (65 - 69%) ...

Gut feeling: observation during interview day at NYGH
CCA & sports --> 2 sheets of papers with names, each sheet of paper around 33-35 names
Academics --> many sheets of papers (5-8 estimated from the thickness of stack, not sure), each sheet of paper 23-25 names
You may do your math but I think it is all about luck.

Dsa interviews timings are very tight for the school. If any particular student tries to dominate the session with own sharing, won't it be unfair to the others? I don't think interviewers will allow this unless they happened to ask related question. Plus I think not allowed to bring anything into the interview room unless they informed beforehand.
He had the good fortune to undergo a special program to do a research topic (to prove some cheem Math theorem) last time. So I printed out the research outcome and prep him for DSA.
Told him the cue is this - anyone asks about your interest in Math or anything similar, just flash the slide and share your findings. No, he didn’t dominate the interview as it took just a min to share the research topic, investigation method, and finally the outcome. If teachers want to know more, they can ask.
I tot that if there’s only 1 vacancy left and if he’s up against an equally strong candidate, then being able to present something concrete would create a more lasting impression on the interviewers. They say a picture (or an item in this case) is worth a thousand words right?
But yes, I get what you mean. Just don’t bring that nuclear reactor your scientist dad did for his work for the interview as the teachers will definitely know it’s not done by you. -

What unknown location and unknown motive r u talking about? Sweep under the carpet, how?Hi! I am puzzled with the rude and defending mode in ”Ganjiongspider”
I am a Sec 4 parent.
The P did a very sincere apology and “damage control” job. My heart goes to her and thumb up for her.
But it does not take away the fact that a teacher unbuttoning the girls in location ( unknown), motive ( unknown) and where is form teacher?
Were the parents exactly brief where, what and how it happened?
So by asking questions, I don’t think Chic Lil is wrong.
In addition, I agree with Chic Lil that we need to fact find rather than sweep in under the carpet’s approach. By the way, I am an old girl, I love NYGH too.
Where was the FT? The FT is a male teacher ...So u expect the male FT to be around when the school conducts undergarment check?
My dd is from the affected Sec 4 class ... We parents knew exactly what happened on that day ...
The teacher already apologised to the whole school regarding the incident ...
The P also updated all parents and apologised to parents via email ...
And the P again updated and apologised to all parents during Friday PTM ...
So r u really a Sec 4 NYGH parent? I don't think your questions were appropriate ... -
