RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
Thanks dance and theatre
I believe it’s a great opportunity to be able to learn from Mr Janek. Yes I’ve read about the scholars program I guess it’s an alternative for those who prefer to attend mainstream schools. SOTA allows students to take up RAD ballet though? I suppose it’s not compulsory to obtain RAD certs but it’ll probably be beneficial to do that. Hopefully there won’t be any clashes in the schedule. -

Yes my girl is in the 12.15pm class, but she's old enough to go herself
..... I hardly ever go to Fort Canning.
Oh ...
we saw a sota girl a few lessons ago maybe yr daughter?
I thought I saw 2 or 3 girls though in the first few lessons not sure. They were in their sota leotard. Did sota send the girls for audition or yr girl applied on her own? Any idea if it's just a one year course for foundation and intermediate and whether those in the foundation class will automatically join the intermediate class?
It sure sounds tiring attending hours of daily dance classes and RAD ballet lessons outside too especially advance grade where lessons are conducted twice a week I believe. -

Ragamuffin
The audition for this yr was held early Feb. Erm I signed her up in Jan but I think the registration for audition started in Dec last year not sure. You may want to look
out for news on their website this dec. There's a minimum age requirement but not minimum grade so I guess you may let her try out for next year or the following year's intake
It's definitely very early preparation for entrance to SOTA but if one is really keen why not? Haha. -
RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
Thanks dance and theatre & dasalo!
dasalo : perhaps dance and theatre rounded down the total?
dance and theatre : yup the info is indeed useful. Should my girl get into SOTA I'll have to check that out. Thank you. -

Scholarship? That’s really interesting. So we’ll have to look for outside ballet teacher/choreographer to prepare the child and get the dance filmed? I suppose this takes place in the first 3-4 months? There’s also a scholarship for those who are strong in academics and talented too based on what I read from their website.

:thankyou: dance and theatre! Definitely very helpful info there.
I guess the irregular timing may have to do with the adjunct teachers hectic schedule. -
RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
Thanks dance and theatre for sharing experiences. When your girl was in Year 1, what time did she end lesson and training?
Besides this forum and SOTA’s website, is there another platform for sharing info on SOTA’s news and events? There’s an fb page but not an ‘interactive’ one. -

dance and theatre:
oh, which yr is yr dd in? Does she aspire to be a dancer and/or dance teacher? My girl enjoys dancing but she's not really aiming to be a dancer. I think she just finds it enjoyable and easy for now. For the first year, do they study in the morning and dance for just a couple of hrs in the afternoon?
Congratulations Pixie 28 !! Encourage your girl to try hard for the PSLE, keep positive as she will enjoy the SOTA school culture and dance. It's tough, not kidding here, but my daughter says she would rather be at SOTA than anywhere else, even with the ups and downs of school life, teen angst, peer issues.
JRLam,
sorry my girl is still sleeping. Wish I can advise u but it's difficult to gauge. I myself am curious as to how many auditioned for the various art forms. Yest my girl said 'thousands'! :slapshead: when I asked how many dance students.
Total 4 days of audition. One in march and the rest in June. She attended the 2nd day of June audition morning session. Need to ask the rest if there were any pm sessions.
