      Thanks for highlighting that it may be exam fee only. Indeed it is! I’ve just confirmed that.

      hi all,

      My P1 girl brought back the LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramaic Art) exam enrolment form yesterday.

      Any of you with experience taking this exam? I would like my girl to take part in this exam. However, the exam will be held during the 1st 2 weeks of the June vacation and the exam schedule will only be known in Term 2. During June vacation we might be going away so not sure if can take part. The exam fee is non-refundable though.....

      Can share if its worthwhile taking this exam? If don't take this exam in P1 can still take at the next level?

      Thanks 🙂

      Rgds,
      Ming
      There will be 10 sessions of training during school hours. It works out to only a mere $9.50 per session of training. Even if your child can't make it for the exam in June it is still worth it. The paper is not important la!

      :salute: to buds 🙂

      And :salute: to your girls! I'm very impressed by all the kids who don't get addicted to their handhelds.

      For me, my objection stems from the fact that I keep seeing kids playing while WALKING (how do they do that?!), playing at the dining table, playing while their parents are talking to them, playing in the bath (ok, a bit extreme, but I witnessed that during a family holiday!) etc. It really freaks me out when I see my kids' cousins sitting in a row clicking away. :shock:
      Not only do I object to kids playing while at the dinning table and crossing roads I also feel the long hours of close proximity to the little screen is harmful to their eyes. I've seen kids playing while waiting for food in restaurants. Why do some parents allow that to happen? We already have very little time with them, why don't they spend the time chit-chatting with the kids instead?

      Hi I_am_not_adult,
      Congrats on your good results! Were you from the top 2 classes? How many in your class got above 250? Care to share how you did it? Any particular tuition centres or tutor to recommend?

      my husband will be posted overseas and we plan to go over as a family. Problem is that we'll only come back when my son is 8 years old. will it be difficult to find a school of our choice when he enters at pr 2?

      One way is to secure your choiced school at the P1 registration and take leave of absence. You need to pay school fees in order for the school to keep the place for your son. School fee is very nominal so it is worth it. Some schools even send their school work sheets and exam papers to you. They will keep the place for you will till P6 but I think schools encourage parents to send their kids back b4 P5.

      Hi James Ang

      I also have a Math question. Hope you can assist.

      It is a P3 question and I believe they are not allowed to use Algebra method to solve it. I can only solve it using our good old algebra method. Can you teach me how to explain to my girl using P3 methods?

      X - Y = 300
      X + Y = 500
      What is the value of Y?

      add up both statements;

      X+X -Y +Y = 300+500
      X + X =800
      X = 400
      Y= 500-400 = 100

      The value of Y is 100

      Thanks James.

    • RE: SAHP or working is better?

      I have 2 kids at lower pri.

      I’ve tried them all: FTWM (reached home at 11pm on most nights), SAHM (with a maid), PTWM and now back to FTWM but I ensure I reach home by 6.30pm. So far I think the latter is still the most ideal for me although I think knock-off time should be brought forward to say 4 or 4.30pm for mothers. Hehe!

      I am not very patient so I prefer to rely on tutors for school work as I tend to spoon-feed my kids with answers which should not be the case. But I like to have more time with them to bond with them, sharing with them stories I read from the papers or point out to them real life examples of so and so misbehaving and the consequences so that they learn about manners and values.

      another thing I notice and didn't write down...he would just walk away while I'm reading! or mind elsewhere...dreaming...while I'm reading... 😢

      I mean if he doesn't want to read but can listen to me read, still ok...but walk away?? 😞
      Hi smurf
      Try reading with expression, introducing sound effect and role play. For role play you can also write simple scripts and role play with him using props you can find at home. It can be a waiter / customer scene, teacher / pupil scene etc etc. Thru role play he will get to read your scripts, hence achieving your objective of recognising words.

      Occasionally choose books on poems / poetry with rhyming words, kids especially the younger ones love the rhythm from such words. I have no idea how old your son is but you can also break the monotony by playing stories on the CD player. Let the professionals take over sometimes and also a chance to give yourself a break. Depending on the age of your son, you can also summarise and tell him stories from the newspapers. These are real life stories and he will be fascinated. After a while you can go back to reading books again.

      Basically get him interested in the language first and don't be overzealous in getting him to read independently. He will sense it and feel pressured. Given time, he will one day pick up books and read independently.
