Train them to read silently - I realised no one has mentioned this. During the first term at P1, my daughter had difficulty understanding the tests or worksheet questions which I was intially shocked to hear. But she explained to me that she understood better if she could read the questions aloud. However during tests or doing worksheets in the class she was not allowed to do that. I believe most of us have been reading out loud to our kids and they also learn to do that since young.

RE: 2008 PSLE Results
Congratulations to all parents whose kids have fared well in the PSLE results! We share your joy too. Would someone kind be enough to share which enrichment centre you send your kids to. If home tutors were used would you care to give the tutors’ contact? This will benefit parents whose children are still 1-2 years away from PSLE. I have pm a few of you but none of you responded to me. Really hope you will share your tried and tested route which will save us the agony of trying out different tutors and enrichment centres.

RE: Any recommendation for good board games?
Try Blokus. It is a strategy game and it is suitable kids as young as 5 years old.

RE: Teeth Grinding
Thank you all for your replies. It’s a consolation to know that there is a possibility that she will out-grow it.
So sorry I could not send a thank you note cause I was having log-in problems for a few days. -
Teeth Grinding
Hi
My 6-year old grinds her teeth everynight during her sleep. Checked the internet and it says they may outgrow this habit as they get older.
Can anyone whose child have been through this share with me if your child outgrew it without treatment? -

You really should find another centre for your child’s sake. There are many around who have their own compound, well-spoken teachers (such as ex top school teachers).
As for water and food, you can certainly try to requests for this and that but isn’t better if you can cater to our kid’s needs by getting him a bigger water bottle and bringing his own snacks occasionally? Also don’t be too protective as they will have to be exposed to such food eventually. Importantly you should provide nutritious meals at home and boil green-bean soup, barley or chrysanthemum once a week to fend off heatiness.
If you can’t find centres with well-spoken teachers or nutritious snacks at least get one that has it’s own compound for safety reasons. -
RE: British Council - Discussion
TLL, BC, MASC etc. Wow! So tempted to send my kids to all these as they sound like very good classes for them but as I am a working mum I prefer to reserve weekends for bonding. On the other hand I would like to help my kids to up their grades but find it so difficult to find good home tutors (come and teach when I am at work). My kids started ballet when they were very young and lately I have been thinking of taking them out so that the same time slot can be used for academic stuff since their school work is more demanding now. After all the years of training I find it so difficult to ask them to quit. All the years of hardwork (on their part and mine; ferrying them around etc). I’m in such a dilemma! I think kids with SAHM are really lucky as they can have more exposure to more enrichment classes yet have lots of time left for bonding with mummy.

RE: [Bukit Timah] BASC
Hi Niecoco
Are you still looking for student care centre near RGPS? Incidentally I am also looking for one and my daughters are also in this school. Check out this website: http://app.mcys.gov.sg/web/serv_dss_main_result_region_vm.asp
Called up Learning Bliss and found out that it is located at the 4th storey of the current Nanyang K. Not so keen as I recall (my girl used to be from there) that this bldg has no lifts. If you have any good recommendation, please share. Thanks. -

Does anyone know how this centre is compared to TLL? Any feedback will be much appreciated.
