RE: Flu Vaccine - for the big exam?
You said you fell quite ill after having that jab. That should answer your question.
New strains of influenza viruses appear and replace older strains. When a new strain of human influenza virus emerges, antibody protection that may have developed after vaccination with an older strain may not provide protection against the new strain. -
RE: All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers
Read in several posts here that many parents have bought or are considering buying key board for your child who is a beginner at piano. I gathered that some of you have paid around $400. Those who have yet to purchase one might want to check out Mustapha Centre at Serangoon Road. I bought one for my kids at the recommendation of their piano teacher. It is a 5-octave Yamaha keyboard with very good sound. Bought at at slightly under $200. Then I bought a stand from Yamaha. In total I paid $200 plus.
Hi pianojazzy
You mentioned in one of the earlier posts that a Swiss piano made in Shanghai is recommended. I am looking for one. Could you recommend some brands? I only know of Steinway and Sons -
RE: Child not focusing in class
Ashley
May I ask if your child was previously in a montessori curriculum in kindy? If she was that could explain the short attention span. I’ve heard from some primary school teachers that they realise that most kids from montessori kindies tend to have shorter attention span and more impatient. But I am sure your child will out-grow this phase quite fast usually by early P2. Meanwhile you can train her at home by encouraging her to do an activity for a slightly longer period of time, extending the period longer gradually. -
RE: All About Dental
Dr Chua is at Atria Pan Dental located at Wisma Atria’s medical floor. As for charges, I have never taken note as I usually pay for the entire family at one visit. For adult each visit usually comes out to around $100 so for kids it should be substantially lower. Tel: 67333 133

RE: Working Parents - How much quality time do you get weekdays?
After enrichment classes in the morning they will spend time on the following:
Lunch
Go to the library to pick up new books
Reading
Polish their own school shoes and mop the floor
Cycling (they have recently mastered cycling on 2-wheel bike so they are crazy about cycling now)
Badminton (also one of their latest pursuits)
Swimming or visit grands
Dinner
Grocery shopping on alternate week
Before bedtime - do abit of assessment -
RE: All About Home Addresses
If your current address is an HDB and you are changing your address on the IC to a private address. Do take note as the various government agencies including HDB will automatically be alerted. Their systems are linked. If the officer is on the ball then your case may be flagged up.

RE: All About Dental
I strongly recommend Dr Chua Chee Haow of Atria Pan Dental. He is very patient and gentle with kids although he caters to adults too. He even designed his office with a playroom and TV for children while waiting for their turns. He takes a snapshot of the children’s teeth for keepsake without charging extra (I understand other dentists do). My kids always ask to see him even when their appointment is not due. I once brought my younger one to a neighbourhood dentist for emergency (you have to schedule appointments with Dr Chua a few months in advance) and my girl cried throughout the session.

RE: Side effects of learning Ballet
I’ve observed at my daughter’s ballet school that majority of the older girls who have been under ballet training for 7-10 years do walk like ducks. They are not even professionals but just secondary school girls. This is inevitable as they have to turn the feet as well as the pelvic bone. Additionally, if they have been using the wrong muscles they will end up with thick thighs.

RE: All About Guzheng/Pipa
Thank you for all your contributions.
My daughter has been learning piano for a few years but lately her interest seems to be waning. After seeing someone played on a guzheng and another one on pipa she told me that she would like to learn. I was afraid that she is jumping from the frying pan to the fire. But after hearing your views I may let her try guzheng. As for piano I’ll tell her that there will be no more exams maybe that will bring back her interest
