Hi Gurus, can I check for my situation:
      1) I am an active GRL in Tampines GRC (staying within Tampines GRC)
      2) I am moving to Holland-Bukit Timah GRC in 2022
      3) My kid P1 registration is in year 2023.

If I continue to serve in Tampines GRC till 2023, in this case, can I apply under phase 2B for the school in Holland-bukit Timah GRC, or I can only apply for school within Tampines GRC? As I understand GRL can apply for schools within the GRC they live in, but I can’t find much information from website on this.

Hope to get some inputs here, thanks.

Yea the new rule is schools within your residence GRC, so you can only apply in Holland-Bukit Timah

given Holland-Bukit Timah GRC (esp the zone that you are going into) has EM quota and can maintain your EM status along with your residence address change.

      Hi all,
Am preparing to register my daughter next year. While I’m planning to sign up for PV, namely Mgs or plmgps- does having to stay within the 1km/1-2km range still hold under 2B? And were there any stats for ppl in phase 2b who lived more than 2km away? Or should I just forget it since I live outside 2km at the moment, and focus on renting a place nearer to the sch first. Thanks! This process is really doing my head in.
if im not wrong, for MGS, 2B out of 2KM is out. no need to ballot. lets wait for guru to answer PLMGPS.

Hi Dear Gurus, I am new to the active community leader criteria and volunteering at RC, etc. May I kindly enquire more regarding the following:

      1) The prospective school is located in the same GRC as where I currently reside, and I am intending to move within 1km of the school before my child's P1 registration window. Can I volunteer/serve at the RC which is nearest to my home currently (this RC, my current home, my future home, and the propective pri school are all in the same GRC)? My concern is if this RC is not one that is closest to the prospective pri school. Not sure if it matters and will affect anything. <- based on what I know from asking from PA staff at my RC, when you change your registered address, it is possible to transfer EM status to the new RC given there is EM slot available at the new RC and the Chairman there are willingly to accept you as EM instead of observer. Quite a number of paperwork need to be done and go thru approval process. This may take some time, not sure how long. If the new RC has no slot for you, and your registered address already changed, you will need to become observer and repeat the same process of becoming EM again. Timing is critical so time it well.

      2) For volunteering at RC, do I complete the RC member nomination form and submit to the RC directly? Or should I submit the online volunteering form via grassroots connect? <-either one are fine as long as you make sure your application reach the correct responsible party and someone do contact you to acknowledge your application

      3) Once I have clocked my necessary time/hours as an EM with the RC, as my RC/current home/future home/prospective pri school are all in the same GRC, should I apply for the active community leader letter before I move to my new home or after I move to my new home (when my NRIC reflects the new address)? <- letter will only be issued at certain timing of the year. PA staff will gather the list of members whose child is due for P1 registration in the year and prepare documents for Chairman for further processing.

      4) In terms of remaining as an EM with my RC, do I need to ensure that I am still an EM during the P6 registration window? Or just up till the time that I attain the certification letter? I am actually happy to remain as an EM even after my child goes to primary school but just concerned if they will kick me out since I moved to my new place (which is still within the GRC but no longer near the RC). <- IMO, You should maintain your status as EM even after the p1registration window. Based on my personal experience, i did move house within the same GRC and once i moved, the old RC zone straightaway transfer me to the new RC zone. Best is to make sure the new RC got EM quota for you. Discuss with your zone PA staff before you move, they should be able to give you some clues.

      Thank you all!

      Hello mummies,

I’m looking to enrol my child in I can read Pasir Ris/Tampines branch. But My daughter insists that I’ve to follow her into the classroom, otherwise she’s not going in. I’m thinking is there any other mummy facing similar problem? Are there any mummies out there who are also enrolling their child there so that my girl can make friends with first? I’m thinking she will be more willing to go into the classroom if she has a friend to go with her
we had this problem before my girl turning 3. We insist to try but in the end we gave up and it seems like she is not ready and independent enough for a course without parents accompanying. In the end, we pause her for a year. After that, we went back to the same class/course when she is ready and no more problem. She just walk in by herself without a scene in front of the room. Im not sure how old is your child. You may assess if she is ready. Or else you may try choosing the class that allow parents accompanying.

Sorry, side track, how do you know the composition of association/GRL/PV in 2B of each school? Where can we find this info? Is it available?

If they announce this year make changes, can take place either this year or next year. Prepare for some back up school in mind, if changes were to take effect from this year.
Yeh already have plan A, B in mind just need to wait for the change to announce and see if its affected (hopefully not, :xedfingers: ) or go n activate the change few more years later lol...

    • RE: MPM Maths - Discussion

my child has been with jelic since she was 3. Now she is 4 turning 5. I wonder when should we switch her to MPM? How to assess her readiness? she seems enjoy her weekly jelic class. For her its like going to the center to play games. I am not sure if the atmosphere will be the same for MPM. As she is progressing to primary school in a few years, should we focus more on core mathematics like MPM instead of game-based thinking/logical process like in Jelic?

    • RE: I Can Read - Discussion

Hi, i find this thread suits my situation at the moment. May i have some of your thoughts/input on what should we do?

My child is in k1 this year. She is 4+ turning 5 in a few months. we have been with ICR since beginning of 2020. She started with pre-reading lvl2, pause for 3 months from covid and resume after that. We were told to promote her to pre-reading lvl3. She met the new teacher which is male and she cried every time attending his class. This didnt happen in her pre-reading lvl2 when she was with the female teacher and obviously at younger age. After a few classes in pre-reading lvl3, we decided to request to change class and teacher and we got a female teacher and she has no problem ever since.

Last week, we got feedback from her current female teacher that my child should be promoted to reading level 1. We would prefer to stick to the same teacher if possible. However, we were told that the current female teacher class for reading level 1-6 are full. Unlike the pre-reading course where the child can join in anytime, in reading level 1-6, all students needs to start and finish at the same time meaning in order for my child to start reading level 1, she needs to look for the class that is going to start and end with the other older students.

My worries are if we were to put her in the new class with the new teacher (esp if the teacher is male), the problem will happen again (foreseeable). We were told that the reading level 1-6 are majorily, older students, will my child be able to adapt to this new environment where her classmates are all gor gor/jie jie. Lastly, her current teacher mentioned that the reading course will have totally different structure than pre-reading course. More homework/assignment, class structure and pace etc.,. Will my child be able to cope with that.

Her current teacher promised to discuss with the staff on the best solution but for the time being, here are our possible solutions that i can think of now

      1. if the new class that going to start, comes with female teacher, i will straightaway let her attend. Content wise, I think she should be fine with some parents support.
      2. If the new class comes with male teacher, shall we let her try? but we were told that we cant do trial class so taking risk if she is able to accept the male teacher.
      3. If there is no new class available at the moment, should we pause her class until the current teacher has available time slot for reading course then we resume back? During the break, we may let her explore other fields that she is interested.
      4. If there is no new class available at the moment, should we explore other ICR branch or other English center to continue her english class.

Appreciate your thoughts/input on this. Thanks in advance.

      Thanks SunnyJane. Good luck too.
can share what is your proposal about and whether you live in <1km, 1-2km or >2km? so in the future, parents who are keen can see as reference. If not too troublesome, please help share how is the interview going as well...Thank you very much! i would believe many parents from >2km will apply as PV of RGPS due to the historical stat. The parents in the area may prefer other school like MGS or SCGS instead due to affiliation.
