    • RE: Peirce Secondary School

I’ve been asking around and so far feedback has been good. I am aware that a P from a "branded" primary school sends her 2 kids to Pierce. But I hope to hear from someone that has gone through the school’s system.

For me, discipline comes first, teachers comes next.

    • RE: Q&A - P3 Science

feels better to know other parents are facing the same problem .

Honestly, if we parents are here discussing about all these science questions meant for 9 to 10 yr olds, can we imagine what is going through the minds of our kids? what is MOE trying to proof by raising the level of science (and math) to such a level that is almost killing the kid's interest?

I think what is being taught is fair, but the way the questions are asked, it's beyond the cognitive level of a 9/10 year old.

if the only way of mastering the subject is by doing 30 to 40 past test papers and assessment books, MOE has to realise that the original intention of getting our kids to think critically has failed.

any idea how we can have a dialogue with MOE? going through the schools is useless. :?:

      pardon my mini outburst here.

    • RE: All About HFMD

my girl had HFMD when she was 2 during the last outbreak. she most likely got it from her childcare. my niece and nephew all got it from the same centre. but my girl’s situation was the worst, as she could not drink or it, she had to be admiited to KKH.

Had to be isolated, so confined to a class A ward. little one was very brave then allowing a big size nurse insert a drip needle into her arm. that was the worst week my wife and i had. little girl soon got restless being confined to the room, at most we could do was to carry her to the door or window. at night, wife and i slept on the arm chair (we are not exactly small size hor).
what we learn from the hospital is to feed her ice cream to let the coldness numb the sores in her throat, after that, she started eating.
it’s a painful experience which i hope no parent will need to go through.

Oops....realised i forgot to do a short intro.

Both mum and dad working, daughter this year in P2 somewhere along Bukit Timah. Attends after school care. Not by our choice, she attends extra lessons for all 3 subjects (sounds normal?). She goes for her swimming lesson. That's her only other non-academic course. No piano (gave that up), No ballet, No dancing, No art class.

On Saturdays, daddy plays chaffeur ferring kid here and there. Evening is our relax time. Sundays are for the extended family plus a little revision.

Just another regular family with school going kids.

      Tks Chief.

Haha…you are very sharp…Renault Scenic was my first brand new car in 2000.

U are partly correct, by the time your kid is in P1, the educators would expect him to know how to spell quite some words, write simple sentences and read a simple book. For Maths, by the time P1 exams come, they would have know how to solve 2nd order problem sums, solve abstract questions. The list goes on.

    • RE: What is being a KiasuParent?

which caring parent is not kiasu? of course if kiasu to the extend of irritating the person next to you, then cannot la.

we all want the best for our child. we want our child to be successful in life so that some parents can basked in glory, others to so called reaped the returns from the "investment" and some simply know that they have done the right thing. Well, I guess most parents have a mixture of the above.
Me? I just wish my girl does her best. If her best means she’s in the middle of the pack, so be it, there are plenty of other options these days, unlike our time where academic means almost everything.
We as parents will now what is the potential of our kids. We as husband and wives should also watch out for each other to ensure we do not kill the flame in the child early.
Most important, we should be good models to our child.

    • scenic98: hi hi fellow parents

      Hi all,

I chanced upon this site while searching for tuition centre for our daughter.
All school going parents share the same issues. and this is a good site to let off some steam and be understood.
Our education system (like many other policies) are getting out of hand. Most of us here have gone through a less stressful system and i think most of us turned out just fine. So with the kind of pressure cooker system now, are we expecting our kids to be Ministers, Nobel prize winners later?
My personal biggest gripe that the education policy shapers (not the teachers) always have this idea of "should have", "would have" mentality. e.g. by the time a child is in P2, he/she "should have" grasp…
"should/would have" based on what, i asked. no one can give me a satisfactory reply…so far.
Ok…sorry…will stop my ramblings here and take it to the relevant subtopic.

      cheers.
