It's best not to give any mobile phone at all to the kids until they are in Secondary school. Going by 30min or 1hour does not work as it requires parents to be aware of the time the kids spent on the phone and we are usually too busy to follow up. Unless there are features in the phone to auto lockup after 30mins... but believe me, they will find some way to bypass the restriction. Don't worry that they will be left out of the digital race... I have a friend whose kid has no access to a mobile and has to use her mum's phone occasionally and boy, her deft use of that phone was impressive to me!

Totally agree! Kids are surprisingly tech-savvy, and monitoring can be a full-time job in itself. I also have a friend whose kid taught her how to use ChatGPT, and while she was initially impressed, she was worried that might limit her kid's ability to think on their own.

I can relate to your complaint. I stayed in Japanese apartments twice, and the stairs were so narrow and steep. Maybe it’s to save space or something. But I still enjoyed my stay in Japan.

As a parent traveling with a kid in the Czech Republic, we found plenty of engaging museums and attractions.
