Hi,

Can I know the difference between elective module n enrichment module? I understand that for elective module, if the grades are nt good, they wun b reflected in the progress report. Hw about enrichment module? If the child does not perform well for the enrichment module, will the grades be reflected in the progress report? Thanks!

Hi, can anyone advise on the number of school uniforms to purchase? How many shirts, PE shirts, collar t-shirts, long pants n shorts to purchase for Yr 1? Also when do students use the collar t-shirts?

      Thanks in advance.

      Hi all,

Need some advice. My son has been offered CO from NUSH & RI. Which school to choose?? I hav read both the schools’ threads. Still undecided. Son keen in NUSH but distance wise I prefer RI. Reason for son’s choice is that he thinks NUSHis less stressful. No "A" levels. But I believe he performs better in a stressful envt.
Whatever perceived advantage is just that, 'perceived'. There is no guarantee Geppers will secure COs from top schools. Is it easier for Geppers to get COs? It may be true more Geppers get COs than pupils from other domains but we cannot conclude from this alone and say Geppers have advantage. I would rather interpret the high success rate to mean more Geppers meet the criteria of the schools offering DSA. Whatever the criteria are, I have no say and it would be wrong for me to demand the schools to 'account' to me what the criteria are. After all, DSA is a volunteer process, they didn't force me to apply.

On the other hand, it set me thinking why years after years, the so called 'top' schools continued to take in Geppers through DSA? I wonder would they keep doing this if historically, Geppers did not perform and meet the expectations of the schools? Surely the schools can tell how they perform since DSA started in 2004 and are convinced it is the right move to admit Geppers who meet their criteris throught DSA? It is the logical thing for the schools to do. Conversely, if Geppers have not been performing, it will be equally logical for the schools to reduce the intake of Geppers through DSA or stop it altogether.

So are we not barking at the wrong tree if we keep saying Geppers have advantage when come to DSA? I don't think this is fair.

      :goodpost:

But I disagree with some of the points. GEPers are exempted from taking the GAT test for some of the schools too, is that fair. I think surely GEP students have a much higher chance of getting a DSA CO or WL than mainstreamers.

GEP students are supposed to be the 'cream of the crop' based on how they performed at tests conducted at P3. They have exclusive 3 years to be groomed and given challenging stuff that the mainstreamers are not exposed to, as the mainstreamers may not be able to comprehend/handle them. They have to be the best after all this right ??

So after 3 years, if you cannot take a national exam and score the COPs needed by the top schools - I fail to understand what is being invested for those 3 years. Why the GEP students need to apply (allowed to apply ....) to DSA via academic, it is what they are good at and groomed to be better at? Maybe if they have other domains they excel in, they can try DSA to SOTA ,Singapore sports school, etc, based on their interests.

So they should just take psle and join their dream school - PSLE is the academic route.

Give the mainstreamers chance to demonstrate their skills in the DSA academic, since they could have blossomed and gotten better in the 3 yrs since the GEP selection exams.

      Just my opinion :siam:

The principle behind the GAT exemption is not unique. It applies to many areas be it sport, business or academic. Examples: wild card for some lower ranking tennis/golf players to enter the tournament proper; certain poly graduates exempt from certain 1st yr degree course; all BPL football teams can enter FA cup 3rd round directly etc etc. We all seem to understand the rationales behind these but not with Geppers?

DSA and S1 is very different. S1 is t score based, academic, pure and simple. However, is GEP purely academic? Geppers might be academic strong in 1,2 or 3 subjects but I doubt they are good in all subjects. There might be certain attributes Geppers posses that only GEP curriculum can harness and develop just like pupils who are talented in sport/music/art etc? MOE's FAQ did mention Geppers generally should do well academically but it also caution against GEP = Good PSLE results. If everything want to be t score based then we should have no DSA at all.

I understand there won't be a perfect system to suit everyone. I know there are some Geppers with zero COs. I feel for anyone who failed DSA but i feel more for Geppers who didn't secure any COs because some of us think by virtue of their Gepper status, a CO is a given. Worse, some think geppers 'take away' or deprive mainstreamers of DSA places. This is so unfair.
I totally agree.. The expectation from a GE kid is high..whether u like it or not, tt is the truth. When a GE kid did not recieve any CO or WL, it is really v depressing.
