Hi - can anyone advise as to how heavy the homework load will be for P1? My dd has been getting the jitters about coping with P1 at NYPS in 2 months' time.

She worries about everything - from her teacher, to her classmates, her shoes, the homework, the spelling and ting xies, exams, standing outside the class etc etc. Any advice that you can offer to help my dd's transition will be much appreciated.

I have not received a confirmation letter from the school on the P1 registration. Have you received yours?

Shelford road is congested with condos and apatments. Can't imagine the morning rush hours of vehicles waiting in a long queue to exit shelford road. Most of the units are tenanted to foreigners. Everywhere on the pathway or pavement, you will find poo.

Only if the gahmen is willing to pay compensation to landed owners to take back the land under restrictive covenant to build infrastructure. btw, shelford road is not link to arcadia nor greenwood ave.

She doesn't want to read and spell properly and she takes her own sweet time to do things. Be it bathing, writing or eating, I always have to give her a timeline. Really want to bang my head on the wall. :frustrated:

Hi my daughter read your thread and she asked me to write this to help your dd get out of her current state. She suggested that you put up a \"rewards\" chart and you assign stars when she has done well for the day (be it behavior or homework or reading). She can use this to exchange for rewards according to the number of stars she has (eg. 5 stars for 1 small toy; 10 stars for something more valuable to her and so on).

P.S. I did this to my dd when she was 4 and she is still begging me to repeat this for her at times. I guess we sometimes need to take a break and have a more innovative way of getting things to work (I know how you feel, we just feel so tired of nagging but if we don't nag, then we end up feeling even more exasperated when things are not done)

My take is that if you take 4 years to complete JMC to get to Grade 1 - it is really SLOW. I haev shared in another thread that I am glad that I stopped my DD’s JMC after 6 months and put her into a 1 to 1 traditional piano class. To spend each class with my dd at JMC was honestly, too much for me to take. It was agonising as each time, they will just sing solfege and re-play and re-play the same pieces. I was bored to death as an accompanying parent, especially given that I had learnt piano previously,

Swiss Cottage Primary has such a nice ring to it.
Had wonderful memories during those years there...can still remember the layout of the school, canteen, dental clinic, principal's office. Oh yes, even my 1st crush :love:

Unfortunately, the school has merged and is now located in Balestier. My older cousins as well as my younger brother & I attended Swiss Cottage.

I spent the best of my childhood years at Swiss Cottage. The nasi lemak with mee rebus gravy from our tuckshop was what I missed. They also had some of the best teachers like Mr Lee Hong Leong, Mr Chua, Mr Tan, Mrs Goh, Mrs Alice Fong. It has been 30 years but I still rate them as top notch teachers, in fact the best that I have come across in my life. I went to NYGH and Hwa Chong after SCPS but I still miss the good ole teachers from SCPS. Mr Gopal was outstanding too. I remembered the one time when he caned a boy on the stage,the pain on Mr Gopal's face as he caned the boy was something that stayed with me. these are signs that I am getting old - keep thinking about the past...

my dd was with JMC for 6 months and i stopped due to my house relocation. Approached a traditional piano school in bukit timah and I am glad that I stopped her JMC class. she was playing solfege all the time (based on her memory) instead of reading notes. It kinda slowed down her progress initially but she has made the transition well to traditional piano class. For my younger ds, i will not go to JMC anymore but will just start with traditional piano.
