Her Econs degree is a BA, but that's just a name. The content of the course was pretty much like any other Econs course, without the distractions of \"general core courses\" and \"cross-disciplinary courses\" or whatever they are called in universities that are more modular.

Hello! My understanding from the principal *was* that the centre s standards are pegged to the CEFR, so I'm uncertain that there is a percentage involved, but I'm just sharing what I can see in the third language exam papers that the expectations are high
... even make it through the O Level exam is not easy (I think MOE pegged this at 30%) ... -

I agree - that's what I tell my dd too! But already, theres peer pressure - like her (S1) frens would nudge her to aim to offer triple sciences rather than double humanities (I think they were shocked by the sudden jump in requirement to have them make inferences or think critically haha)
..
For IP kids, non core subjects could perhaps help them enrol into certain programs? ..doodbug\" post_id=\"2130220\" time=\"1709544892\" user_id=\"13281:

RE: FSBB (Full Subject-Based Banding)
Thank you for the sharings, chenlaoshi, zacs mum, doodbug, phtthp!!
(Apologies for the ignorance,) I had not considered such a structure before! However, my dd s frens (S1) are already discussing post secondary options, suggesting that it may be better (I’m not sure in what sense) to enter a polytechnic rather than a JC
She was disappointed though, that there will be no chance for retake of MTL. Btw, for our school, even if you do not qualify for HMT (based on PSLE results), as long as you (S1 G3 student) score at least AL4 (PSLE MT), the school allows them to opt for HMT. Still, there are only 2 classes of HCL in her cohort (of ~5 G3 classes)
I shall share whenever possible -

A retired lady was in my non-beginner Python class! Even though the pace was quick for her (she couldn't answer the ad-hoc pop quizzes properly), the (American) instructor & fellow coursemates were patient. She tried hard, so the course could even be completed ahead of time, with extra technical tips thrown in!

Hi. When the lecture falls on a HBL day, it can be online. Rarely, when it is a cohort common lecture, it can be such that students are sitting in class watching a recorded lecture. (Afaik in our school) Lectures are typically 'physical'
...Is it all IB lectures are physical (no online or recorded) for the schools in Singapore offering it? -
RE: Networking Group - JCs General
Hi. For the Year 6s (AY2024) in our school, IB MT B SL results (average grade ~6.8) are also released today. The cohort sat for their papers in Nov 2023. If the student does not obtain a grade 7 (a score of at least ~84% in this sitting), a breakdown of each component would be given to them. That is, scaled marks for oral, paper 1, listening, & reading
Congratulations to everyone!! -
RE: IP vs O level
Hello! Yes, I was indeed surprised - as far as what I could browse, the IP papers were less intuitive whilst the express ones were eye popping straightforward. Ig schools want to keep the honeymoon period sweet

Happy new year to everyone 🎇
(1) I have heard that the written EOY papers for dual track schools (specifically VS, SJI, ACSI) are identical for both tracks, at least for Year 1 and 2. Is this true?
(2) So the only difference is that the IP students in these schools have more project-based assessments?
(1) written eoy papers are Not identical for both tracks in ACSI afaik. In the foundation years (S1&2), we practised with both IP & O level exam papers for mainly maths & science. & there are apparent differences
(2) apart from projects, perhaps IP uses more of methodologies such as the flipped classroom? idrk -

(1) Definitely yes
... (1) The students themselves look very happy to be part of the school
... (2) CTSS have a very strong and dedicated alumni group which surprised me; these alumni looked almost as enthusiastic and as proud of their school as ACS alumni.
(2) & yes! -
RE: Appeal Secondary One Posting
Hello octbride, both are just as popular (with Y2023 P6 nhps students), but (as zacs mum posted) Commonwealth seems more for those who find it accessible. Indeed, Commonwealth offers a wider array of CCAs, & houses an impressive hydroponics room [though personally I do worry about its proximity to the reservoir (insects) & the impending construction (train)]. CTSS on the other hand implements a unique fsbb system whereby “students belong to form classes based on their CCAs”, & seems to deeply nurture their students’ entrepreneurial spirit (eg hydroponics veggies, a student initiated project, were given out to visitors at their open house)

RE: How to improve English???

Yes!! But my dd sadly does not read that voraciously... However, our (primary) school's HA class for English introduced vocabulary in this way -> the teacher created numerous online flashcards (vocabulary.com, quizlet), the students were assigned a practice (more or less) each day, & points were awarded ranking each student. Gamification was fun to them ig. Otherwise, it is really pretty much as zacs mum posited (like, make conscious efforts to speak proper English using varied vocabulary; encourage extensive use of dictionaries to gain precision)
It is effective if the child picks up languages by absorption, reads voraciously and the family speaks the language fluently at home. School lessons will be fun because no drilling involved...
Dear zacs mum, Thank you! -
