Let the amount of money Mr Chong be 5u
T : S+M : S+M+T => 4 : 11 : 15starfish74:
Hi,
Please help with the following 2 questions. Thanks.
(1) Bala collected Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand stamps. The ratio of the number of Thailand stamps to the total number of Singapore and Malaysia stamps was 4 : 11. The ratio of the number of Malaysia stamps to the total number of Singapore and Thailand stamps was 2 : 3. There are 52 more Malaysia stamps than Thailand stamps. How many stamps did Bala have in all?
M : S+T : S+M+T => 2 : 3 : 5 => 6 : 9 : 15 , Constant Total, i.e. S+M+T.
6u - 4u = 52
2u = 52
u = 26
Total Stamps = 15u = 390
(2) Mr Chong bought some tables and chairs from a furniture mall. A table cost 5 times as much as a chair. He spent 2/5 of his money on the chairs and 1/3 of the remaining money on 2 tables. What was the total number of chairs and tables bought by Mr Chong?
2u is spent on chairs,
3u is the remainder, therefore he spent 1u on 2 table.
For 2u of his money, he could have bought 4 tables. 4 tables is worth 20 chairs (Each table is 5 times the cost of chair)
Chairs bougth = 20, Tables bought = 2. Total =22.
Thank you very much! Ender -

For Q1starfish74:
Hi! Please help on the following 2 questions. Thanks in advance.
1.\tMdm Lim has 36 sweets, 60 chocolates and 90 biscuits packs to be placed into the goodie bags.
(i)\tWhat is the maximum number of goodie bags to use so that she can pack these items equally without any left over?
(ii)\tHow many items will there be in each bag?
2.\tMr Lim wants to cover a wall measuring 120cm by 150cm with square tiles of the same size. Given that he uses only whole tile, find
(i)\tthe largest possible length of the side of each tile;
(ii)\tthe number of tiles that needed to cover the wall.
Find the highest common factor of 36, 60 and 90.
Factors of 36: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36
Factors of 60: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, 60
Factors pf 90: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 15, 18, 30, 45, 90
Hence the highest common factor is 6.
(a) The maximum number of goodie bags is 6.
(b) No. of sweets in each goodie bag -> 36/6 = 6
No. of chocolates in each goodie bag -> 60/6 = 10
No. of biscuits in each goodie bag -> 90/6 = 15
For Q2
Factors of 120: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 24, 30, 40, 60, 120
Factors of 150: 1, 2. 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, 25, 30, 50, 75, 150
(a) Hence, largest possible length of each side of square tile is 30 cm.
(b) No. of tiles needed along length -> 120/30 = 4
No. of tiles needed along height -> 150/30 = 5
Total tiles needed -> 4 x 5 = 20 -

RE: All About Kids' Eye-sight
During the annual eye check up in school, my son visual acuity results was 6/36 for right eye and 6/9P for left eye. He was referred to see an optometrist/optician. Can any parents advise whether should I bring him to see an eye specialist or just see an optician to make a spec will do? I’m worried as the results vary so much for both eyes.
