Seems like all sch push more homework for P6s.
When P5, I still could go through oral with my DS a few days before his oral exam, now no time for anything extra. He just had oral this week without "practice", hope it will be good as his SA1 results is important for DSA.

My DD SA1 starting from next week, everyday she comes home with bundles of home work from school and don't have much time for revision. I feel very bad when i look at her, but i try to make out time for small wishes that she asks to make her feel more comfortable and to relieve stress. As a parent that is what we can do now.
Is it norm to have so much homework even till the last week before SA?
My DS also has tons of papers given by teachers, until I cannot follow which is new and which is old. Some still unmarked! Leave it to my DS to manage on his own. If teachers can't finish marking, how would the children know their mistakes before exam?
He told me he doesn't have time to do the assessment I bought for him. Stressed but don't know how to help. -

Thank you for your advices.
Hi SydneyBB, don't try to get your ds into an IP school just because he has sufficient cop to get in. It has to be also based on his capabilities, personality and character. In IP schools, he must be an independent learner and a self learner. There are kids with very high psle scores bombing out of the IP syllabus and transferring to the O Level class after they enter IP school. So it boils down to how well you know your ds and what is suits him best.SydneyBB:
It is tough to gauge where my DS stands between schools of COP 240+ or COP 250+ (for IP).
Some parents of his sch seniors told me that since he got top 10% in his pri sch (edusave scholarship award for P5), he should be able to get 250+ based on his school's past years PSLE performance.
Hence, I'm thinking of DSA IP school, but worried he can't cope if he is not diligent. He wants IP sch as he loves projects, open discussion, etc, but when comes to sitting down to practise sums, reading, he starts to daydream.
I was able to look through his sch work in the past, but this year, he refused to show me. How to coach him like that?
With your ds, try to discuss your findings of him with his form teacher and find out what caused the distraction and the change in attitude. Is there a similar change at home and in class? Perhaps he is feeling the pressure from his teachers and his peers?
How to see if one is independent learner? My colleague's son who is in RI (sec 3) said most kids are not very diligent as to do extra worksheets but they will finish homework and projects given. They are independent to find resources if needed, but not finding extra notes for all subjects. Most spent a lot of time in CCA. Do IP schools' teachers teach? How different is the way of teaching between IP and O level track?
Anyone has any example to share? -

Can anyone advise whether can use correction tape during psle written exam?
My DS cannot go without correction tape. His handwriting is quite big and untidy, hence he may not have space to rewrite the answers. I have asked his form teacher and she said it is ok to use as long as the pen ink will not smear and the students remember to write the correct answer over it immediately (don't need to wait for it to dry for correction tape).
All at own risk, of cos.
Minimise the usage - that's what I have been telling my boy. -

RE: 2016 PSLE Discussions (Born in 2004)
My DS seems to slack, though he said he knows what he is doing. He complained I nagged the minute I stepped into the house. He said he is stressed by teachers, classmates and me. It is already Thurs and he has not finished his sch work, no time for any revision. He is at home alone in the day and I can’t monitor what he is doing (computer and TV locked, but he still has the handphone). I can’t take his handphone as he is alone.
His CA1 results dropped to around low 80s. He said it is tougher papers, but I can’t tell. Asked his teacher, he said he is doing fine. I thought of reducing his and my stress by reducing our expectations (told him it is ok not to go IP school), but he said I don’t trust him to do well. So tough to be mum!
Wanted to help him to go through his CA1 mistakes, but he refused. He said teachers went through already and he knows. He wanted to be "independent" but I don’t see him study much at night when I’m back home. Is he going through the "teens" period? What should I do? -

Hi mumof3kids,
Your DD1 is so sensible and mature. She will definitely do well in her PSLE. -

All I did with my dc last year was to staple the docu/cert. No cover letter whatsoever.[/quote]Thanks 3R.
Which sch did your DC apply?
I heard some schools need a write-up/cover letter.
Which sch need? Which sch doesn't? -
RE: DSA 2016
Is cover letter handwritten by child necessary?
My neighbour’s daughter decorated the cover page for her DSA 2 yrs ago. She said it helped as during the interview, the teacher commented it was nice.
My son can’t draw well and his handwritten is also not nice. Is typing and printing from computer better?
I’m thinking of binding the documents/cert. -

Now too late for me.
Should have done it when he was in lower primary.
Since last yr, he will argue with me, saying that I don’t trust him when I call/text to check on him every 1-2 hrs.
Guess I’ll let him continue his "lifestyle" (playing computer/ phone games as daily relaxation) as long as he maintains his results. Don’t want to spoil our relationship because of schoolwork. … Though, I hope he can improve and make it to IP/IB school.
