RE: 2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake
Did anyone do any research to compare 2C applicants for Day 1 and Day 2 for last yr 2017 and 2018, any big differences? I remember last year Chief Kiasu posted a data sheet for 2C, day 1 how many applicants. Day 2 how many applicants and so on. Can anyone find the link again and repost here? So we can compare last yr and this yr.

HWS high applicants is definitely due to the new Bendemeer Light BTO. Some residents might not be 1st timer getting a new flat, so 2nd timer residents' kids would already have been at schooling age now.I asked at HWS today about the breakdown of applicants to distance but they told me they were not allowed to reveal that. When we were registering today there were some parents who were registering that lived 1-2km away or further. Given the ballot history I would have thought the staff would advise them that the chances were slim to non existent. However I am making a lot of assumptions as to which category they might fall in SC or PR and distances.
I guess I just have to :xedfingers:MelOng:
Saw the MOE updates.. couple of schools way over subscribed.. eg. HWS 28 places available for 2C but 114 applucations !!!
More or less we can guess the strategy of the applicants. They are not shunned away from the 28 seats to 114 applicants because they can always fall back on Bendemeer Pri and Farrer Park Pri which has plenty of places left overs for 2CS. Nothing to lose for those balloting.
For whichever schools we are aiming, we must \"understand\" the mindset of the others so we can think of plans to counter act or to re-strategist our plans again. -

No MPs would dare to \"challenge\" their authories/bosses. I guess there is no answer but to just base on trust. Sigh..............Katnisslee:
Since the ballot is not public, what assurance do we have that MOE plays by the rules and there is no foul play?
None. Time to get your MP to ask this question in Parliament? -

I also feel that the policy \"to stay at that address for 30 months upon registration date\" is not right. I have one neighbour before end Jul phase 2C last year 2017, registration date, in Mar 2017 they already started looking and rented a private unit and moved in by June. So they only need to stay in the rented unit the child turns pri 3. Should make ita law \"address 30 months before p1 registration date\", so that to make them plan many years before and not just the last few months before registration date. Lol.some time i really dun understand why MOE is only reserving 20 slot for phrase 2C child.
as this phrase is the true fact that they live so near to the sch, where do MOE come up with such figure to reserve for child in phrase 2c....?
I do understand some parents can in order to let the child go popular sch, they can rent a unit super close and declare it as a pemanentant address, moe can check and elimanate such application that before and after registeration must stay at least 30months.
That is more fairer. -

Maybe backend they are "doing" something. I hope the computer does not select the "type of" profile of students (certain income gp/educational level of parrnts) that the school wants for it’s bebefit. Anyway the balloting is not transparent, so we just have to have faith in the system.

RE: 2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake
As we had discussed previously, the selection of students in the transfer process is very subjective. Different schools using different methods and preference of selecting. Govt-aided schs are not 100% funded by the Govt, so they really need the fundings, more so if they are planning for upgrading. Hence the donation route is not illegal, as it is fundings donated by the public willingly, not the P/Sch hinting/requesting from the parent. The school can say is it a "coincidence" just nice now that our school has a vacancy for you. Personally I was totally pissed and felt unfair when my relative gotten a place after offering the cheque. Because before that the Sch had said no vacancy at that moment. Well, life is not fair. Not everyone has rich parents to help them get an advantage in life.

As MBS is a Govt-aided school and they need funds. You can give a donation (at least 5 digit sum), that will make it higher chance for you to be selected from the waitlist. As putting the name on waitlist is a transfer process, so it is according to the discretion of the school and not MOE. This is a proven strategy by my relative (not for MBS but for another govt-aided school in need of funds for their upgrading).
With this much demand in the Dragon year, is there any hope for waitlists? Under what circumstances the vacancies arise and give opportunity to those in the wait-list. This year, the chances some one not taking up is very very low, correct? Also who are qualified for waitlist?Peiliang:
For MBS waitlist, I will suggest to not get your hopes up too high. Reason being that there will be 16 SCs (+3 additional PRs) that will miss out in Phase 2B. A huge majority of these will be fellow Buddhists who had been recommended by a committee member of SBF. Some venerables are also concurrently on both MBS and SBF committees (Venerable Seck Kwang Phing for one is both MBS chairman and SBF President). These parents should also be wanting to be put on the waitlist. Due to the discretionary nature of the waitlist queue, it becomes what I personally believe to be a \"Who you know\" and not luck issue. Providing the places to these parents whom are fellow buddhists is also considered good karma for these parents too, given that they have been proactive and done their part in spreading the dharma and their kids will also be able to enjoy some Buddhism teachings while there and continue to spread the faith when they grow up.
Good Luck and amitabha.
thanks in advance -
RE: 2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake
Is there any one here working in MOE HQ. Possible to share how is the new balloting at HQ done?
- Is it a press of a button by an IT personnel?
- Who are the witnesses physically around during the balloting process? Principal? Officers?
- Any SOP and auditors around to ensure that the process is fair and just? Or is it "onself check oneself".
More clarity should be made available to the public.
