Hi TryNotKiasu,

As long as the child's response after the repeated question is correct, nope, that incident alone will not cause mark deduction.

It is only when the child failed to respond appropriately after the repeated question and/or further prompts that content component of the grading will be affected.
Ah.. Thank you Chenlaoshi! Glad to know it wont affect marks.. 😊

The no. of prompting questions and how the candidate respond will affect his/her grading for the content component (15 marks) of the oral conversation (30 marks). There's a rubric that examiners will grade according to.

@chenlaoshi, may i ask for your opinion? If a child obviously misunderstood the question and answered wrongly during psle oral, then the cher said, '我再把问题问一遍' and repeated question. Child responded '对不起,我刚才没有听清楚\" and proceeded to answer the question. Cher gave nod to the answer. Will this incident cause a deduction of marks for the mistake?

When you referred them as \"THEY\", it does sound like everyone or every Chinese ex-pat in the chat group have smart children. I am sure that's not the case because I have seen PRC children who struggle with math and other subjects.
'They' as in the kids of the few hundred parents in that group chat. The super on parents consolidated the AL reported by parents in that group chat. Their kids really did well.

Thanks SG_KP, Deepblue and Zeal mum.

Yes, something that didn’t exist in the old system. Singaporean first.

That means all those with AL6 who put RGS as 1st choice, Singaporeans will be accepted first before PRs and foreigners.

But there is one way PRs/foreigners can walk straight into top schools, that is to score AL4 and AL5

Trying to calculate balloting risk does not quite work as no one knows the breakdown of Singaporeans/PRs/foreigners and their choices of school.

Try lah, no risk no gain, just make sure to have a safety net at the 5th and 6th choice to ‘catch’ you/your kid just in case.
About the statement, ya.. In fact my friend, who is now a Singapore citizen, told me that it is commonly shared in the expatriate group chats to aim for AL 4 and 5 to secure top 4 schools so that they will not lose out in terms of priority over citizenship. They are already very good at their MT and math, just need to brush up eng and sci to secure the other two AL1. In fact, many do very well!

DS2 was accepted into his 1st choice secondary school via DSA (basketball). Following the footsteps of his brother (DS1) in 2019 also thru DSA (basketball). Sibling rivalry, DS2 refused to go to the same secondary school as DS1. I’m glad still that both schools are great schools both academically and in sports. And are basketball powerhouse.

If not for DSA and relying on their mediocre academic results alone, it would be impossible to get into their choice schools. For DSA route via sports, 1-1 coaching and strength conditioning sessions to have that extra edge is critical. During the year of DSA itself, both my boys went thru intensive 1-1 coaching to brush up their skills, speed, stamina and sighting. Glad that their effort paid off.

Let me know if anyone needs advice on DSA (basketball) for pre-covid (based on 2019) and covid year (based on 2021). 😅

Yes, I don't think they attend from Term 3 onwards. Some may effectively end earlier in Term 2 ahead of the SA1.
Thanks. I do hope they at least get to do some sort of leadership duties next year before stepping down.

When they “took over” from the current P6s in April after the farewell pizza party this year, effectively no CCA meetings at all due to SMMs, and they are simply having one short “hi and bye” Zoom session to close off 2021.
Did the p5 in your child's school take over leadership roles for cca officially? There is no announcement for my child's school and i wonder if there will be any, since there is no cca, nsg and syf this year..

I have a question really just out of curiousity. DHS accepts mostly IP students from year 1, only accept O level students from year 5. What could be the possible reasons that its mean and median are lower than EJC, VJC? And also NYJC which doesnt have IP students?
