Way2GO:qizai: ..... Sometimes, all we want is a little empathy from family and society in general and very often, the government can set the tone for that.I think many ppl can see d big picture or some parts of d big picture. In trying to stay ahead in d race, we must also take care of those left behind, yes?If u abandon/neglect those injured soldiers in battles, u expect loyaltyn more ppl to join u for future battles?A nation must also hv a soul.Yes,but we have to put this into perspective. Exactly how big a problem is unemployment here? There will always be a small number of people who are unemployed at any one time, no matter how prosperous a country or capable a g'ment is. To point out ONE example, and then cite 'the g'ment has failed the people', is in my view, hyperbole and unconstructive. We must not reduce everything to lowest common denominator. In our rush to help those left behind, do we inadvertently craft policies that constrain the ability of our local MNCs to compete? Do we make our country unattractive to the FTs that can make our industries competitive? This will surely be the downward spiral of our economy, and the example of that unemployed person will soon be joined by many more.Yes, help those left behind, and this is not solely the role of the g'ment, but also of each individual to look out for his 'injured buddy', and for us to buy into policies that aim to help the less well endowed, sometimes at our own expense (e.g. HDB flat upgrade/downgrade, higher taxation). But a BIG NO to policies that constrain how our companies hire. It may be a small solution for the short term but irreparably damaging for the future.
