The Bbq is great :rahrah: ....hope we have this sort of gathering on a regular basis. it's real interesting getting to know who is who (like E3 , trapwithin,php & many more...)....Better to chit chat directly to each another instead of just chatting in the forum...

sorry for the late reply...ds got new enrichment classes today but we will come by to the BBQ ( might be kinda late )...will bring along snacks maybe healthy nuts & candy ...i'm quite lousy with food :oops:

the bookfest is so crowded …too many assessment books n I end up buying those that are going for really cheap prices like 4 for $9.90…may have to go back again this time without kids…

I always believe that music can strengthen one's character. Thus, is a MUST for me that DS learns one musical instrument.

I believe it is the time & effort that one puts into the learning process that shape the person. Of course, due praises must be given from time to time to sustain the interest.

I made the mistake of just letting my elder boy practised the piano without sitting next to him & telling him how much/how highly I thought of his playing. With no one to compliment him, his interest soon died. Now he plays the piano at his leisure (I always tell him the piano is the most expensive toy we get for them :oops: ).

My P4 boy is aware that the older brother can play the piano well despite stopping at grade 3. He is thus very motivated to practise daily without my telling him anymore. Sometimes, he rather plays the piano than does worksheets. Btw, the piano teacher told us he is ready to start practising for his grade 1 exam :rahrah: after undergoing 7 mths of learning. I dunno if this is considered the norm or already slow but I am very happy with his progress.

oh yes, I agree with u....my job next to the piano is to tell him how good he is and when he makes mistakes, ask him to decide if he shd practise until it sounds perfect. He learns to set his own standards/ expectations & of cos the phrase \"practise makes perfect...\" ( i say that non stop :O)

1 reason my ds can swim afterall was becos i believe he listens, follow accordingly to the no of counts( ie like music) require for the swimming strokes. it was easier/familar for him to pick up once he underst that .

My boy has two CL paper 2 tutors. That's why I slackened n did not revise with him. Big mistake. Another mistake was not following up on his EL, since those worksheets he brou back all seemed ok.

I was in a bad mood over his EL & CL results too. U take care.

Btw, this sch hols is a must made good use period to brush up as many areas as possible. Next year will be very hard-up for time when the twice weekly supplementary afternoon lessons start.

I'm bad mood over her 3 subjects - EL, Math & CL.
Compared to last yr, her P4 marks had dropped in BIG multiples for Math & CL, cannot think of next yr to drop further another 1 round of Big multiples!!!

Has yet to think how to let her catch up ?
She is not willing to study anymore.... she has antibody to incentive or punishment so both don't work.
She refused to listen or do any homework.
Her home tutor for past 3yrs had fired my daughter.
So far, she's busy enjoying herself since exam over, she is going to Cambodia school trip next week.
For Dec, I will away for >2 weeks for biz trip & my personal trip.
Dh cannot handle her as he is a filial father :yikes: who listen to the kid.

i'm sure yr dd is just going thr a temporary phase and probably she's just as upset as you are over the results. maybe she just didnt want to handle this for a while. Or maybe she is one of those who need to be coached as a group so that she can be motivated by her peers.

Can i just ask around if we take my P1 1 month away from school in Mar ...will it affect his studies a lot? anyone tried that before....my DH thinking of taking a long leave tt period .... will the school approve with just a letter from us? :scratchhead:

Agree with janet. Is it possible to take the one month's break during the June holidays instead? That'll be less disruptive to your child. Now I'm a bit worried I gave you the wrong impression that PH P1 is very relax. It is in a way, but definitely not so relax that the student can disappear from sch for one month. :scared:

thanks for the advice ! now my Dh thinking of going on longer vacation this holiday so as not to disrupt his studies....
really glad that the P1 will be well taken by the P5 for the first week

My poor boy seldom get a chance to play cos Mummy here doesn't like to play. There were a few times he played solo Monopoly.

Let the kids enjoy the last 2 months of K2...from what Mark mentioned, primary 1 in PEI HWA seems to be a honeymoon...if you need to start drilling, perhaps June. They should be more settled in P1 by then.
