    • RE: JC or Poly?

My son was trying to decide between JC and Poly. His results were average (12-2 =10) and felt he had no chance for the better JCs. End up choosing to apply for NA poly (9-2=7) and felt he had a better chance of entering a course he'll prefer.

Realized that students now a days are avoiding JCs with the mindset that its very academic and with huge homework loads. My concern now is that I heard only 1/3 or less poly graduate makes it to U as compared to 75% of JC students. How true are these numbers. 😞

    • RE: Business ideas

Starting a business is indeed a significant endeavor, and having passion for your chosen field can be a crucial driving force for success. Here are some key points to consider when starting a business based on your passion and experience:

Passion and Purpose: Passion fuels your motivation and determination to succeed, especially when facing challenges. Identify what you’re truly passionate about and align your business idea with that passion. A business driven by a strong sense of purpose often stands a better chance of thriving.

Market Research: While passion is important, it’s essential to conduct thorough market research. Ensure there is a demand for the products or services you intend to offer. Your passion should align with a viable business opportunity.

Experience and Knowledge: Having experience or knowledge in the industry or field you’re entering can give you a competitive edge. It allows you to better understand industry trends, customer needs, and potential pitfalls. If you lack experience, consider partnering with someone who has relevant expertise.

Business Plan: Develop a comprehensive business plan that outlines your goals, target market, competition, marketing strategy, and financial projections. A well-thought-out plan is essential for guiding your business forward and securing financing if needed.

Networking: Connect with others in your industry or field. Networking can provide valuable insights, mentorship, and potential partnerships or collaborations. Attend industry events, join relevant associations, and engage with professionals in your niche.

Continuous Learning: Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, and best practices. Continuous learning and improvement are crucial for long-term success. Consider taking courses, attending workshops, or reading industry publications.

Financial Management: Properly manage your finances. Ensure you have a clear understanding of your business’s financial aspects, including budgeting, cash flow management, and financial forecasting.

Adaptability: Be prepared to adapt and pivot as needed. The business landscape can change rapidly, and your ability to respond to new challenges and opportunities is vital.

Customer-Centric Approach: Focus on meeting your customers’ needs and providing exceptional value. Building strong relationships with your customers can lead to repeat business and positive word-of-mouth referrals.

Resilience: Entrepreneurship can be challenging, and setbacks are common. Maintain a resilient mindset to overcome obstacles and setbacks. Learn from failures and use them as opportunities for growth.

Starting a business based on passion and experience can be a fulfilling and rewarding journey. However, it’s essential to combine your passion with sound business strategies and a strong understanding of your chosen industry to increase your chances of success.

    • RE: Has the purpose for tuition change ??????

sad to hear this. We went thru the same experience when my son was preparing for his PSLE . The tutor was rather strict and flooded him with so much homework that he lost interest in learning. His PSLE results turn out average and now in secondary school . It was a rather bad experience and he would cry and pretended to be sick to avoid going for his tuition.

    • RE: washing machine?

I had this experience many years ago when I bought my washing machine. There is a safety lock or fixture that is behind or underneath the machine that needs to be removed before it can be turned on. This is to protect the machine when transporting. Not sure if it is the same reason, try looking at the machine back or underneath.

    • RE: Fuhua Secondary School

Hi Parents, I’m not sure if other schools practice this. Fuhua weighted exams for the same subject and test papers are done on different days. Some students would share with their friends that are taking the same paper on a different day . Even to the extent of using their phone to take pictures of their test paper and share. This would be rather unfair to those students that have studied hard for the exams and taking the test on the first day.

    • RE: Mid-year exams to be scrapped in all primary, secondary schools by 2023

Personally , I can’t see any benefit from scraping the mid year exams . This will break their momentum of preparing for exams and would be hard to pick up on towards the year end exams. Children these days are mostly into computer gaming and this would give them an excuse to play more since they are no exams , I’m speaking more of my 3 children in primary and secondary schools currently.
